hooked on phonics worked for me

Total number of books owned:
Too damn many....a lot, though, are things like Babysitter's Club novels, Everworld, other YA books from my Jr. High days, and a lot of kids books xD Most of my "grown up" books aren't even on my bookshelves. Epic fail.

Last book bought:
Metamorphosis and the Trial by Franz Kafka....the Metamorphosis is one of the few books I've EVER cried through while reading.

Last book read:
On the Road by Jack Keroauc. Well, I'm still reading it, actually. FIGHT THE POWER! I need to find the time to finish it.

Five books that mean a lot to you:
(-__________-) I don't even know where to begin. I'll leave historical books like "Night" by Elie Weisel out and Non Fiction like "Parrot's Lament" by Linden because...well...it's easier to choose amongst fiction than non fiction for me xD I'd like to point out these aren't my top 5...well they sort of are, I guess, but not really. When I worked in a bookstore, I made a huuuuge list of all the books I wanted to read (I literally went around the entire store and wrote EVERY. TITLE. DOWN. And then proceeded to LOSE THE LIST after I quit there xD)

Wicked by Gregory Maguire...yeah I know, everybody and their brother has read this book by now, especially the wanna be hipsters. All I can say is that if it wasn't for me getting practically the whole high school band hooked on it, they wouldn't have done the Broadway show for their marching season. (And my good friend Ashley got me hooked on it, actually)

Kafka On the Shore by Haruki Murakami....wow...this one was a real trip, but it really made me think and got me into looking into things twice. It's the sort of book you have to read and re-read to even KIND OF understand whats going on...theres so many levels and philosophies and metaphors going on all at once its almost suffocating, but in a good way. It make your brain work, and its a great fiction story too.

The Hobbit  by J.R.R Tolkien.....coming in second would be the Ring trilogy, but it says only 5 books so...I think I first read the Hobbit in 5th grade, and then we had to read it in class in 7th grade. We had this movie version that was really musical, and I loved watching that, so I think it got me hooked on it. I guess its this history I have with it that makes it so special to me. "The greatest adventure is what lies ahead...." hahaha

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman....okay so I just violated the "no trilogy" rule (sorry LotR) but they all kind of need to be together...no matter your religious beliefs, you can't deny its a great story. I don't know why it's stuck with me so much...

Animal Farm by George Orwell and Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.....both for the same reasons, sort of. The meanings behind them affected me so deeply....the agony of isolation and heartache, longing to belong again....absolute power corrupts absolutely.  Both are stories I've (like I mentioned before) cried through while reading, although in Animal Farm I only cried when Boxer died. The other book I've cried while reading was Night by Elie Wiesel, but show me someone who doesn't cry through it and I'll be amazed. But I digress. Both of those stories still make me feel a wide range of emotions just thinking about them. And I refuse to squish bugs now because they make me think of poor Gregor Samsa xD

Honorable Mention to my collection of short stories by H.P Lovecraft. Because he's the man, and he pwns your SOUL. Ie Ie Cthulhu fthagen! How is it that Stephen King failed to scare me with most of his stories, but Lovecraft's short stories just FREAK THE HELL OUT OF ME.
