A Singing Lesson

Dec 14, 2005 21:37

Today I had a singing lesson in Orange at 4 and school got out at 3:30.
I thought i'd take the side streets since i am too 'fraid to get on the freeway.
ANYWAY I follow mapquest's directions down to the T. It said that Irvine Blvd. would
turn into E. 4th sreet. It turns into that street but then I realize I'm driving in
what looks to be little Mexico. It was crazy. It was like the Santa Monica Promenade
(how theres a street in the middle) but cars could go on this street. The road was probobly
7 feet wide. Stores loudly proclaiming "MEXICAN SHOES" or "TAQUERIA" lines the streets.
People unabashedly jaywalked to their hearts desire. I started getting nervous. I locked
my doors. Finally the street ends (!!!) i was supposed to have turned by then.
Ok. So I make a right. A left. A right. I realize im lost.

It's getting dark outside.
Im alone in the middle of Santa Ana. "Don't panic" I whisper to myself. I make
another turn and notice a stoplight approaching. Now I fully intended on stopping
AND I DID, but i didn't notice the hoard of pedestrians waiting to cross and i stopped
really abruptly right as they all started walking in front of the car. I then recieved
a death stare from the portly mexican man that was first in the hoard. I then hear old ladies
and young children alike exchange comments of "whoaaa there!!" "THERE'S A STOP LIGHT" and "oh my god!"
As they passed my car some turned around to mutter oaths in their native tongue. Most just
shook their heads at me. I worded "i'm sorry" but i guess my apology fell onto deaf ears.

By this point I'm really lost. I just start making random turns in any direction that would
lead me home. It's 4:20. I'm late. So I then start wondering where the freeway is since I
could try getting home that way. For some reason I thought i was going the wrong way
so i turned around. Made more wrong turns but a miracle happened. I made a few more turns
and landed right infront of the church where my sinsing lesson was. AHHH! I was so happy!
SO I worked on my solo. After she gave me lessons to get home which involved the freeway.

I hate the freeway. I hate driving at night. I hate lots of cars. But to get home
i had to take the freeway at night during rush hour. My blood pressure jumped
50 points. But you know what? I DID IT! I WENT ON THAT FREEWAY! I CHANGED THOSE LANES!
I SIGNALED! I DIDN'T get on the 22 east! AND I MADE IT!!

I come home and tell my mom the ordeal. Turns our East 4th street and that whole
neighborhood I was in is the most dangerous part of Santa Ana. HAAA!
