Thank You

Today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada. While we don’t really celebrate anything sort of similar in the Filipino culture, we did kind of start celebrating it once we moved here. It’s actually kind of a nice concept for a holiday - being given the opportunity to celebrate whatever we are grateful for. I probably say “Thank you!” more than a hundred times a day to customers as I give them their change or hand-off their drink. Sadly, the frequent use of the phrase sometimes diminish its worth or impact.

True enough, life hasn’t been extremely fantastic for me lately, but it hasn’t been anything close to horrible either. I have so many random desires and wishes that I often forget that there are indeed a number of things that I am very much thankful for.

I am thankful for friends, old and new. For the ones back in the Philippines, who care enough to keep in touch and ask me how I am doing. For my Filipina girls here in Canada who are always there to entertain me, to indulge with for some girl talk, to explore and discover this place with. For the new friends I’ve made and various relationships I’ve established.

I am thankful for my family. They annoy me sometimes and we are a little dysfunctional in some aspects, but they are my family and I love them.

I am thankful for my job - despite the madness, despite the stress, and despite the not-so-good pay. It’s never boring. It has given me the opportunity to meet new people from various walks of life. In a way, it had made me a better person - it has sort of improved my social skills and my confidence.

I am thankful for people who’ve pushed me beyond of my comfort zone and made me see things in a different light. I am thankful for little opportunities and the many blessings given to me. I am thankful for chance encounters. I am thankful for new adventures.

I am thankful for the every chance that I get to see the beauty of the world.

I am thankful for life, love and everything else in between.

Happy Thanksgiving.
