book of the dead

Found via Boing Boing - a site with Victorian post-mortem photography. Some of the photos include the dead people posed with their still-living family. I've included some that kinda stood out to me, behind the cut if you don't want to look at dead people.

I agree - the rest of the kids even look really unnerved (to say the least) at having to do it.

i think they look so, because it was common thing - to photo with your deceased relative...

Post-mortem photography fascinates me but it creeps me out a whole lot.

I would like to see an explanation why they used to do it ... i can hardly see dead people in funerals, imagine posing with them as a normal picture ... i think i couldn't sleep ever again

The death creeps me out
