Posing with Grant Wood’s American Gothic, one of the most famed U.S. paintings of its generation, are the models:  Nan Wood Graham, the painter’s sister, wife of an oil-station operator, and Dr. B.H. McKeeby, their dentist. The models sat separately for the painting and never stood in front of the house.  The photo occasion is the first showing of the painting in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Wood painted it in 1930.  Photo by Wide World.
