Ethel Waters, author Carson McCullers and Julie Harris share a couch at a party after opening night of "Member of the Wedding" on Broadway. In fact the show ran for 14 months and was made into a movie. Maybe they were all just tired. Or the early editions of the papers with the reviews hadn't come out yet.
