With the hair and the seashell, '24 really reminds me of a mermaid. I dig that look! It really is a shame that pageants have reversed themselves from the natural beauty these girls had. I'm curious, did you also look at the later years of the pageant? I wonder how gradually it shifted towards the overly made-up look we think of "beauty queen"...

That is the exact reason why 24 is a favourite, I'm a bit of a sucker for mermaids. And her hair reminds me of mine, and anyone who can tame that sort of hair into something that looks good is a hero of mine.

I did a second post going up to 1955, but didn't look any further than that, going past the mid 1940s I start to veer out of my vintage time frame. I had a suprisingly hard time dealing with the girls in the 50's since they already started to veer into that perfect "Barbie" type look. 1946 - 1947 is when I feel it starts to go into the overly made-up look of today in my opinion.

Oh good, now I can admit to having a similar texture hair too! I've been thinking of growing out my hair again and I may use Miss 1924 as a motivational picture! I covet her hair. <3

Yeah, I agree. While it's changed styles, Miss America still has a bit of the '50s feel to me. Or what we associated with the '50s, as it seems to have happened a little earlier.

And right, you probably shouldn't post a complete retrospective anyway considering this is vintagephoto. ;) Thanks again for all the work of putting this together! It's a nice collection.

Vintage hairstyles for some reason are the only way that I'm able to tame my hair. Look into ring curls is my suggestion, and setting lotion is a must vintagehair is a world of help.
