This overly trendy store had a whole rack of them for 5 smackers :) It's called Urban Planet, if you're in Canada you're in luck.

As per your Autism Speaks button, perhaps you should visit the link above to learn why adults with Autism feel that Autism Speaks doesn't speak for us.

I didn't even know it was an Autism Speaks [And I don't know why Autism Speaks is bad?] button. I have it everywhere. My daughter is 4 not an adult. The button is meant for people to gain awareness on Autism as a whole and not be ignorant towards people with autism. That is all. As for the link you sent me, I'm hard of hearing thus i couldn't watch the clip. No subtitles or captioning. ;)

Your daughter will be an adult Autistic one day. I don't think she'd appreciate the thought process behind the Autism Speaks charity. It isn't about "awareness" it's about a "cure." You should learn more about them before you unknowingly spread their buttons around.

I'm sorry for the lack of subtitles, I was unable to locate a copy of the video with them. However, here's some information in text form, it's really just the tip of the iceberg on why Autism Speaks is such a poison to those of us with Autism.

If you want an ACTUAL group that is for Autism Awareness, one that includes Autistics in their decision making, check out the following organization.

You're trying to spread awareness and that's wonderful. It's just the organization that I take issue with.

I wasn't aware that the button was from Autism Speaks. I have it on my facebook because I like what it says, and the puzzle piece is a general global sign for autism, it doesn't say on the button anywhere that it's "Autism Speaks" I've read through the site and work with a lot of people for my daughter. I've never heard anything "bad" about the charity. In my opinion, I think finding a cure for autism is excellent. And personally, I wouldn't "cure" my daughter of her autism either, but for future children, yes definately and why not? I'm not going to start a debate here in a community that doesn't have to do with the subject though, if you'd like to discuss and share opinions, please feel free to add me to your friends list and we can do it amongst ourselves. Cheers!
