The Age Line
Ron felt his wand-hand tremble. He looked to the stands, hoping beyond hope that he might see Harry and Hermione cheering for him. Harry, though, was angry with him, angry that Ron had found a way to put his name in the Goblet. Harry didn't want to have his own name in, not at all. Rather, Harry had tried to impress upon Ron how dangerous this was, how reckless. Hermione was angry with him as well, angry that he'd broken the rules, betrayed Dumbledore's trust.
Harry and Hermione were not up there in the stands cheering for him. They were nowhere to be seen.

"You'd have to be mental to put your name in that cup!" Harry threw a textbook across the deserted common room.
Hermione primly closed the book on her own lap. "Yes, you would. It's not worth worrying about, harry. It's out of our hands now. Dumbledore will take care of him."
"Yeah."
"Now sit down here. We'll have a better time this weekend if this essay is done, and it sure beats worrying over Ron."
"Yeah," Harry nodded. He sat by Hermione, and she slowly rubbed his shoulder.
"You feel responsible, don't you?"
"No," Harry answered sharply.
Hermione smiled knowingly and patted his head. Harry noticed then, for the very first time, how lovely she smelled, perhaps like Chamomile, soothing.
He shook his head and went back to work on the essay. Suddenly, though, he was not worried about Ron. He was thinking of no one but Hermione, so close. How had he not noticed her before?
