I frequent the Salvation Army more than I'd like to admit sometimes:) About a month ago I bought a recipe box full of old clippings and recipes. There was even a Bulgarian 200 leva bill inside haha! I have no idea who would be hoarding Bulgarian money since I live in Northeastern Pennsylvania!
Anyway...I'm including pics of the recipe box and the money I found inside.
I'm also including some of the recipes that seem older than the rest. Most of them were clipped from the back of packages, magazines, newspapers etc.
Enjoy!!
Potato Pancakes....from a newspaper clipping
2 eggs beaten
1/4 cup milk
2 cups grated, ground, or shredded raw potatoes
1 tbsp. grated onion
2 tbsps. flour
1 tsp salt
Pepper to taste
Combine beaten eggs and milk in mixing bowl. Grade, grind or shred potatoes and add to egg-milk mixture as soon as each cupful is prepared. Use only pulp of potato, not liquid. Add onion, flour, salt and pepper. Mix well. Drop mixture by tablespoonfuls onto hot, lightly greased griddle or frying pan. Stir mixture before dropping each pancake. Cook cakes slowly until well browned on other side. If cooked too fast, pancakes will scorch before cooking through. Serve immediately as mean accompaniment or with apple sauce or apple butter. Makes about 18 pancakes.
