Title: that's what i'm most afraid of
Prompt: Pretend (drabble challenge)
Fandom: Axis Powers Hetalia
Characters/Pairings: onesided Spain/Romano
Rating: General
Warnings: None.
Notes: Wasn't sure this was better more for the prompt "Pretend" or for my table challenge prompt "Limits". I'll just post it for the drabble challenge since it looks like no one else on Team Axis has posted anything. :(
Antonio likes to think that there's a romantic tinge to their relationship.
Sure, Lovino is hot-tempered and irritable. He's resistant to touch and affection. He's greedy and selfish. He enjoys hiding behind insults. And he's jealous of Feliciano, his brother, his other half. (But he loves him the same)
Antonio likes how Lovino flushes bright red when he blushes. He likes how he tries to struggle in his embrace but ends up giving in anyway. He likes how he breathes gelato and pasta and collects tomatoes with Antonio under the strong midday sun. And he loves him because...
He's not sure, really.
The house is empty and quiet. The bees buzz silently, tapping against glass. Antonio smiles and faces his shadow. Lovino will be here soon. He'll be back. Antonio practices his smile, practices his words, even though he doesn't need to. They come naturally after all.
And if Lovino calls him a bastard and tries to avert his embrace, he won't think ill of him. Antonio just likes to pretend that deep down, Lovino loves him. Loves him because he's given the boy everything that he can give.
There are limits, after all. Even Antonio knows that he's not an unconditional god, just a Nation, almost human.
(Almost.)
