As I was driving to work today, I thought of a few things that I'm really glad I don't take for granted, and realized there are some things that I do kinda forget to appreciate. I've decided to list these things, just as a sort of a reminder to myself. This particular list is restricted to the things I experience on my way to work.
Things I see:
- Five-finger ferns. They're like friendly green hands, I love them.
- Redwood forest. Lots of redwood forest.
- Madrone trees.
- A small waterfall.
- The entire Monterrey Bay, from about 2000' up a mountain.
- The Monterrey Bay filled with clouds, so mountain tips look like islands in a sea of cloud.
- The ocean.
- Sunlight pooling in puddles on the road. It doesn't just shine, it drips and flows and pours and spreads like rain.
- Gorgeous rock outcroppings. The sunlight washes down these like waterfalls.
- Beautiful rolling green hills.
- Gnarly, incredible scrub/hill oaks.
- The Santa Cruz mountain range.
- The San Andreas fault. Terrifying, but oh-so-beautiful, with the strangely warped, grassy hills on one side and the Santa Cruz mountains, dressed in redwoods, on the other.
Things I smell:
- Redwood forest.
- Water.
- Fog/mist/dew.
- Clean air.
- Eucalyptus trees.
- Honeysuckle.
So, from home to work, my commute is an hour and a half (more, on the way home, unfortunately) - but the entire span of time is crammed full of wonderful things to experience and enjoy.
I love being alive. I love experiencing the beauty of life.
