P-Man fun run in Kailua-Kona

I can't believe it. I'm starting to really impress myself. I just did a three mile run along Ali'i drive in Kailua town, starting/ending at the pier. I guess they do these little things every month or so. It was actually a biatholon, 0.75mi swim then 3mi run, but I only did the run part. I went with a friend of the buddy I'm staying with here in HI. It was GREAT, I'm so glad I did it! I was very hesitant to go at first, because I knew I'd be the slowest, biggest gal there, but I figured the only things I had to lose were some fat and some pride, and I don't need them anyway.

Even though I'm the slooooooowest runner in the universe, I still had a great time. People here are so kind and encouraging. Most everyone who passed me (incidentally, they passed me again the other direction, too!) cherred a quick "Great job!" as they passed. The really good runners seem to know who really needs a bit of encouragement. I of course cheered a "Thanks, you too, you're doing great!" or something of the like. It seemed the right thing to do. A couple of people even walked with me a short way when I was so pooped out I had to walk. One lady walked with me a bit and then later a fellow walked with me for quite a while. He was pooped out too, I think. He and I ran a ways together, too. Everybody was SO kind. The people who had encouraged me along the way all cheered when I got to the finish. I almost cried I was so happy. Uhh, also I hurt, but that can't have contributed ;)

Later today, my friend is going to try to teach me to surf. I've ALWAYS wanted to try, but been too afraid that I wouldn't be able to for my bulk. But again, I've nothing to lose but some pride, and I don't need that anyway!

I love this place.

surfing, health, hawai'i
