From 1904. Maybe this is why Chanel No. 5 caught on so quickly, it was much easier than rattling off 4711. "Oh I'm wearing 4711". Sounds like a train engine number.

Huh. I remember 4711 being sold as a mens cologne. I had some long ago that was given to me as a gift. I rather liked it. Most perfumes/colognes smell pretty much the same to me, but 4711 was different.

EDIT: I nearly forgot to put the 'yes' vote in.

there was one just called 1664? now I'm wondering why they just used #s as names...not expecting you to know, just thinkering while i type.
