50 years ago, 109 years after the US Civil War ended, in a state that was technically just below the Mason-Dixon line but was never part of the Confederacy, Confederate Memorial Day and Jefferson Davis Day were still legal, government-recognized holidays in Louisville, Kentucky.

I had no idea until I stumbled across this ad, from the 2 June 1974 Courier-Journal.
