LOL! I thought the first one said, "Keep 'Em Frying!" ;)

Both sets of grandparents had Victory gardens. My mom's father had grown up on a farm and so did my dad's mother. Their gardens turned out very well. My paternal grandfather learned a lot growing that garden. :)

My maternal grandmother was Italian and having a garden for tomatoes and peppers and other good stuff was just routine even before the war. :)

Ah, the scrap drives. They chewed up many a comic book so that drove the price up on the rare ones years later. Action Comics with Superman's first appearance just recently sold for a bazillion dollars. Trying to outdo Batman's first appearance in Detective Comics! ;)

I like the "When you ride alone-you ride with Hitler!" Says it all.

Incidentally, my dad always refused to carpool.

My dad told me about some of the movie theaters in El Monte California holding special days when a kid could get in for free by bringing old bike tires.

My Dad admitted that he and some of his friends 'liberated' a few neighborhood tires so they could all get into the flicks...

So were they encouraged to save or scrap the rest of the bicycles?
