So yesterday wa pretty craptastic.
It didn't sta out too awful, and as always it could've been worse, but it was bad enoughenough believe me.
I woke up much earlier than I intended and (once again) couldn't get back to sleep. I decided 'what the heck' I'd watch one of the dvds I borrowed from the library. So I watched an anime, 'Metropolis'. It was quite good, though sad in places. Then I got ready and went to work. It was a little warmer than it has been so the walk wasn't too bad. However I was still glad I had a nice, warm coat. Little did I know! So I gt to work an everything seems to be ok. Until! My manager has a little talk with me about how I haven't opened a single credit this month, and how thsis NOT good epecially for a full timer. They've been really pushing extra hard on the credts lately. Both the credit plan and the sales plan are down and the employees are hearing all about it in great and glorious detail. It's being made very clear if I don't open some credits in the next couple of days STEPS will be taken.
So of course I couldn't get anyone to open a credit yesterday either. Just lovely.
Then had a couple of transactions in a row where SOMETHING went wrong. The register froze and I had to shut it off and start it up again, which always takes a few minutes. I did a return, and instead of giving the customer back a store credit, the computer printed up a slip explaining hat she would get sent a check in the mail. Since she had planned ondoing some shopping she wasn't too pleased. When I called my manager over, he said he "wasn't sure why it did that either" but that he couldn't override the system. Then I had a woman who wanted to buy a 2X Liz Claiborne jacket which was not only missing the price tag, but was (of course) the last one of the style that we had. However she *just happened* to have the same jacket in size Large from downstairs. She insists that it must be the same price because it's the same jacket. I politely explain the it's *not* the same price actually. Women's plus sizes are priced higher than Misses sizes. "Let me just double check that there isn't another one over here with a tag. She follows me over repeating the whole time "No, there's not another one. That's the only one. There's no more! Just ring it for the other price, it's just the same!"
Unfortunately she's right that there wasn't another. So I call my manager (again) because not only is this woman insisting that she wants the jacket at the lower price and that she's in a hurry, but I'm getting quite a line at the register. My manager shows up and tells the customer that I'm right and he can't sell her the jacket at the lower prce. This, of course is NOT the end of it. She keeps insisting and insisting and says it's stupid to think that it would be a higher price when it's the same exact jacket. She won't leave but keeps going on about what a hurry she's in. Finally my manager, who had stayed to help me get the line down, tells me to just give it to her. Basically anything that would just get her to leave already! So of course she has ths little smirk, and says to me "Don't they teach you that the customer is ALWAYS right?" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGHH!
Miraculously enough I didn't smack her. I even managed to say "Have a nice day" without snarling.
After that it was just a lot of minor, grating, annoyances until just a few minutes before I was about to leave. A regular customer(a nice one) came in and asked me if I could find her a particular blouse in another size. I check the computer. We don't have it, but another branch does. Would she like me to call and either have them hold it or send it to her? She asks t have it sent. I call the store, get the wrong department. They transfer me. Still the wrong department. It happens 2 more times. I finally get the right department, and give the information to the saleswoman. Twice. She goes to look for the jacket. Comes back a few minutes later, "What size was that again?" I tell her. She goes looking again. Comes back, "I can't find it in green, just black." Black is what I asked for (since black is the only color it comes in). "Oh." She goes and gets the jacket. By this time it's past the time I'm scheduled to and I won't make the bus, but I can walk home, right? After all I have a nice warm coat (hohoho). So after giving the customer's name, address, etc. several times I finally finish. The customer is happy and thanks me several times. I tell her no problem. I get my purse, tell my co-worker good-bye, and..."Where the heck's my coat!"
MY COAT'S GONE!!!!!
I look for it. My co-worker Blanche looks for it. Even the customer that I just ordered the blouse for looks for it. *My* manager has left for the day, but another manager helps me look for it. We check in the stockrooms, fitting rooms, coat department, petites, better sportswear, moderates, even the men's and children's department. No coat. By this time I'm cussing a blue streak and don't care what anybody thinks about it. Eventually, after over 45 minutes of searching, they have Janet, who lives just few door down from me, give me a ride home since I can't walk home without a coat. She didn't mind since it gave her a little break. "We'll keep looking for your coat, I'm sure it will turn up."
So I get home where my roommates were kind enough to let me rant about my day. Also since one of my roommates was apparently in a cooking mood she'd made pot roast with carrots and potatoes, good comfort food.
Later on I went 'window shopping' at Blue Velvet Vintage, my favorite vintage clothes website. I've only ever bought something there once, but I like to browse.
I'm really hoping that today will go better than yesterday. Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself by writing that. I will try to remain optimistic.
