Adventures in middle school

Tomorrow I start a long-term sub job for a middle school language arts teacher who is flying to Florida to get laser back surgery--yeah it is pretty serious! Anyways the middle schoolers are reading the Odyssey and doing grammar--how providential! Not only, did I tell the teacher, have I read the Odyssey and taken a Greek mythology course, but only last semester I took le intense grammar course, if you recall I had to write a paper on verbs, and then another on subordinate clauses. Personally though, I am looking forward to reading the Odyssey, and then next week they get to watch the movie and take a test on it, which should be pretty easy from my point of view. I will certainly be on the look out though for any squirrelly behavior from the middle schoolers, they do tend to have lots of energy. However, I will say, that it is rather refreshing after high school when all the student seem to hate school, hate their teachers etc. In middle school, the first day I subbed at that level, I walked it was visibly surprised by how happy the student were. I guess puberty and school tracking practices haven't fully set in.
