Alan/Adil log

He could remember, even in the depths of the darkness that had taken control of his already feeble life... The days back then...

Adil saw himself, just a few months ago, running down the busy neighborhood, papers on his hand and a huge smile on his face. He was usually full of life and energy, but that day was a different story. On that day which he so vividly remembered...

The door few wide open as Adil ran into the small, cramped apartment, to the surprise to both his parents nearby. Not even bothering to catch his breath, he ran to them, exclaiming, "Father, mother! You will never believe what happened today!"

Adil's father put down his newspaper and raised an eyebrow. "Must've been something big for you to not close the door after you came in, Adil." His mother chuckled as she stopped setting the table to look at her son, who laughed sheepishly as he closed the door behind him.

"I know just how much getting a good education means to this family, so..." Adil set down the papers he was holding onto the table, so that they would be able to see the acceptance letter written on it. "...I've been accepted to Cairo University!"

The two adults looked at their son wide-eyed, their mouths gaped open in shock. Their shock soon turned into elation, and tears started to well up in their eyes. Adil's mother came up to embrace him, while his father jumped up in exhilaration.

"Oh Adil... Oh, my son! I knew it! I knew that you would be able to do it! Words cannot express just how proud I am! Adil... oh Adil!" His father soon joined in the embrace, and they cried tears of joy together, while praising their brilliant son. After they finally calmed down and wiped away the tears, the family gathered around the table as the mother passed out the food.

"I'll be starting in just a few months. Everything's been already paid, so you don't need to worry," he told his father as they started eating. Strange, his brother wasn't here today. He was always home around this time... "Father, where did brother go?"

"Oh, he didn't tell you? He's looking into a new house tonight."

This caused Adil to choke on his food. "A new house?! Doesn't he have to worry about his wedding?"

"Of course, but he claims that it's worth it." He stopped eating, and started to stroke his chin. Adil knew that he was thinking whenever he did that. After a few minutes of silence, he continued, "Well, now that I think about it, between your acceptance into Cairo University, his upcoming wedding, and the new house, I guess that we have nothing to worry about anymore! It seems that we all have a bright future ahead of us..."

His father's words still lingering in his mind, Adil opened his eyes just a little to let the light come in. Where was he now...?
