YAF to Host Immigration Speaker
Mark Krikorian to Speak at Michigan State University

East Lansing, Mich. - Mark Krikorian is the executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), and will speak at Michigan State University about how illegal immigration needs to be ended and how legal immigration needs to be reduced to sustainable levels. This event will be on Thursday, October 4, in room 102 of Conrad Hall. The event will take place between 7 and 9 p.m.

CIS is a right-leaning, immigration reduction-oriented, non-profit research organization, and was founded in 1985. According to the CIS website, “It is the Center's mission to expand the base of public knowledge and understanding of the need for an immigration policy that gives first concern to the broad national interest. The Center is animated by a pro-immigrant, low-immigration vision which seeks fewer immigrants but a warmer welcome for those admitted.”

This is the third immigration speaker YAF will have hosted in as many semesters. On November 30, 2006, YAF brought Coloradan congressman and presidential candidate Tom Tancredo to campus. On April 19, 2007, YAF brought Minuteman Civil Defense Corps President Chris Simcox to campus. Both events made national news.

Kyle Bristow, the chairman of the MSU chapter of the Young Americans for Freedom, said, “Immigration is a very important issue and needs to be discussed. We are educating Spartans about this issue and hope that the Aztlan Nazis don’t disrupt our event.”

A rumor is circulating around campus that YAF may bring Chris Simcox back to campus on November 13. MSU-YAF does not confirm nor deny this.

Another rumor that is circulating is that YAF may bring Jim Gilcrest of the Minuteman Project to campus sometime in the spring. MSU-YAF does not confirm nor deny this. When Gilcrest spoke at Columbia University last year, protesters rushed the stage and he was escorted off by campus police. This event was covered by national media.

YAF is a conservative, non-partisan political group that was founded on September 11, 1960. Former members include President Ronald Reagan, Congressman Tom Tancredo, Vice Presidents Dick Cheney and Dan Quayle, and actor John Wayne.
