i've found a new obsession: capoeira! it's so fun and it's a really good workout too. basically it can be described as brazilian break dance fighting, think eddy gordo and christine from tekken. it was developed by african slaves in brazil who needed a way to protect themselves without arousing the suspicions of their captors so they used a ritualistic dancing/fighting style under the facade of dance, rituals, and games. lots of rhythm, acrobatics, and trickery is used during games of capoeira.
at first i liked it but i thought it useless during an actual fight and the dancing rather than fighting part of it put me off a little so i remained skeptical.today after my jkd and mt classes i saw another class starting up but i was puzzled because no classes were supposed to be scheduled today. then i heard samba music being played and instantly knew that this was a capoeira class going on. i wanted to see a game going on cuz those are super-duper cool. i'd watched classes before but they seemed rather uninteresting so that put me off a bit too at the time. i asked if i could watch and my instructor told me to just join in and i thought why not? so we went through all the basics and i actually played a game with my instructor, it was so cool! i later found out that it wasn't an official class, more like a club and i thought, "awesome!" i know where i'm going to be friday nights at 7:30, hehe that's kinda sad.
