(no subject)

Totally posting this here without editing it to make it more coherent for LJ (as I haven't posted about this stuff here before), but dammit, I feel the desire to rant about this everywhere I can that doesn't have fucking family members capable of reading it.

Seriously though, so fucking pissed right now. Previously, I have posted about the childhood religion debate that was pretty much forced upon me by my wife starting to tell my oldest (5) daughter about this God stuff. Now, I'm an atheist, but never had any intention of pushing that on my kids...I simply wanted to leave the entire subject alone until they were much older and discussions about it could be meaningful and informed. That, it seems, isn't good enough for anyone the fuck else.

My wife and I pretty much worked this shit out though, and agreed not to bring it up with her, and that if she happened to bring it up, then discussing was okay, but we'd keep it simple.

However, it seems that unbeknownst to either of us, my wife's grandmother has been telling "the truth" about God whenever she watches her (and her younger, 3 year old sister), to the point that she now not only whole-heartedly believes in God (and really, what kid doesn't believe the things their trusted authority figures tell them on a regular basis?).

Today, she brought it up when we were eating some food...something about how God made the wind or trees, I don't remember. I sought to explain the natural origin of such things, and she flipped the fuck out on me, to the point that she was screaming and crying about my not believing her that God is real and that she loves God and that even though you can't see him you know he's real and everyone knows he's real and serious this shit ran on just like this sentence.

So yeah, now I'm pretty fucking pissed that my grandmother-in-law has at least temporarily fucked up my relationship with my daughter until we can find a way to talk this stuff out, all because she just couldn't fucking resist feeding her her own beliefs, despite *KNOWING* that I'm an atheist and that my wife and I don't want to raise them as religious children.

Rant over.
