The annual Tour Detroit is on Saturday, October 16. Since
biking the streets of Detroit was a favorite pastime of mine
for many years, I recommend this guided adventure through the
city. If you haven't been to Detroit in the past few years,
you'll be surprised at the vast metamorphosis (some ok, some
not). Detroit may not be pretty, but it is interesting. And,
like most things, it's always better to experience it from
outside the shell of an automobile.
Here is the info (sounds like it's $10 for students and $20
for the rest):
ABOUT THIS EVENT
Take a bike ride and explore the fascinating urban area of
Detroit on your bike! This leisurely, 38 mile police-escorted
ride will follow proposed greenway and bikeway routes at a
pace of approximately 10-12 miles per hour. It will explore
some of the city?s historic areas, take in many of its most
breathtaking sights, and provide bicyclists a unique
opportunity to legally ?take over? the streets of Motown.
HOW THE PROCEEDS WILL BE USED
All proceeds from the Tour de Troit will be used to support
planning and development of the Corktown-Mexicantown
Greenlink, a bike and pedestrian network that will link the
Corktown and Mexicantown neighborhoods to each other, to the
planned West Riverfront Promenade, to downtown, and to
Midtown. For more information on the Greenlink, visit
www.corktowndetroit.org
