Vince haaated being called in to work on Saturday mornings. Hated, with a capital H. Saturdays and Sundays were the only days he had the opportunity to relax, especially lately -- while he’d kept his normal weekday hours at the retail store, he’d been practicing like crazy for his routine at Coney Island. The next three Fridays would be spent at the sideshow, trying out his act to see if customers took well to it. If they did, he’d be worked into show 7 days a week. He had no idea how he was going to balance working retail and working at the sideshow. The sideshow season only lasted a few months -- what was he going to do, quit his retail job for now and just hope that it would still be available later? He had no idea, and it was too much for him to think about without becoming overwhelmed.

And because of that stress, he was becoming more and more forgetful at home. Once he’d forgotten to put the jar back on the peanut butter. Another time, he’d left the TV on all day while he’d dozed in Kori’s bed, too lazy to walk to his own bedroom to sleep. And once he’d left the oven on way too long and scorched the food he’d been attempted to make… but than again, maybe that could be chalked up to complete lack of cooking skills.

Today, he’d managed to forget to put Baby back in her tank after holding her for a few minutes this morning. With a sigh, he paused on the sidewalk on his way to work, and dug into his pants pocket to grab his cell phone out to call Kori, grateful at least that he'd remembered to charge his phone. He waited, waited… and was then prompted with Kori’s voice mail. Drat. Maybe he was in the shower, or still sleeping? Or maybe he’d left for the day? Vince hoped it wasn’t the latter. If not, yeah, his snake would probably be okay, but… their air conditioner was on and it could get sort of cold in there. Or at least cold for a snake.

“Oh, man... I totally forgot to put Baby back in her tank,” he began; his tone sounded completely sleepy. He didn’t bother to identify himself -- he’d lived with Kori long enough now that his roommate of course recognized his voice; he didn’t need to begin a message with ‘this is Vince calling.’ “I dunno if you’re even home anymore but just in case you are… d’you think you could put her back in? She was on my bed when I left -- I sorta cleaned in there a couple days ago so you probably won’t trip over anything. Just don’t step on her. I mean, not that you would, but yeah.”

Vince paused just long enough to switch his phone to his opposite ear as he paused beside the stairs that led down to the subway; he knew if he descended right this second his phone signal would die, so he lingered for a moment to finish the voice mail. “Oh, and… I think we need to do something today. If you’re not busy and stuff. I’ve had to work like… every day this week and now today and I’m just really tired. And I thought maybe like, we should go somewhere else. Or maybe stay at home. I dunno, dude, I’m just really freaking worn out and part of me wants to just… yanno, watch TV and eat a whole bag of Cheetos, but then like, part of me thinks we should go out and do something. Like find a concert and get really drunk. But I don’t know. I can’t decide.”

He paused there again to rub at his eyes to try to wake up; it was far too early to be up, in his opinion. “But yeah, I probably can’t talk to you at work cuz the boss doesn’t like that, but I’ll talk to you after. If you’ll be at home. So think about it -- maybe you can help me decide later.” And with that, he re-pocketed his phone and sluggishly descended the stairs to the subway. Eating Cheetos and drinking and watching TV for hours seemed like a great idea at the moment, and hopefully Kori would be willing to cater to his whims.

Eh, but more than any of that, he just missed Kori; lately he'd been too tired to even wait up and watch hours of infomercials with him -- something else he missed, of course. He hoped he'd learn to multitask better in the near future, because he wasn't doing very well with that at present.
