TBFTGoGGI, and other stories

Two accidents on the roads of Poxford today, one I heard about and the aftermath of one I saw. The latter was a container lorry blocking both the northbound lanes of the A34 at about 9 o'clock assuming the Woodstock Road is 12 noon. It looked like it had been hit with a giant sledge hammer, several times. Pallets and whatnot all over the road, swarming with cops and a satellite dish and surveyors; ambulances en route, and the beginnings of an almighty traffic jam. Forty minutes later, traffic was backed up all the way to the Headington roundabout. Not a traffic cop or a yellow warning sign anywhere to be seen. I hate RTAs, having attended a few in a past life; they're a mess even when they're much smaller than this one was.

However, given the numbers of people who clearly got their licenses out of the Argos catalogue and decided to give their wheels a little spin in town, I was lucky to avoid the same fate. People who queue straight across busy junctions are just asking for their genes to be removed from the pool. [shivers]

On the good news front: one of the nursery nurses is a lady of mature years with one young but grown-up daughter. Now, three years ago they were all nervous and shaky because the lass was struggling to get into the Brookes nursery-nurse course. She did and got through very well indeed; her parents never had the opportunity to be in school past sixteen, themselves, being southern Irish and growing up on the farm, you see.

So today I asked the lady, whom I adore, how the beautiful daughter was, and - I am teary as I write this - she BEAMED and said she'd been accepted to study medical nursing; she recited the date the lass will start, and was so proud of her, and so pleased to be asked, and we had a huge hug, because she saw how pleased and happy I was for her, and how touched I was - I knew she was so proud of her only daughter, and she was. Supporting her in her studies will be a struggle for this couple, but they couldn't be more chuffed if she had been magically appointed to be the Queen. This woman is truly lovely; Child adored her when he was part of her watch; and it has made my day beautiful to have talked to her.
