On costume stresssssssing

Jul 22, 2010 01:59

There is, of course, the overarching stress of holy carp what am I doing trying to make/modify something so complicated?!?!?!?!?!!! But I already have the buttons. That's like...deal sealed.

Aside from the epic stresspile of that, there is:

1. Boots for Nice. Last year's boot covers were...fail. So very fail. So fail, in fact, that I threw them out. They were ruined anyway. Anyone going to Otakon with size 8 or 9 feet that I can borrow brown cowboy boots from? I promise to return them in the condition I get them in!

2. Speaking of Nice, I have to find my red shirt and gloves, which are buried in one of the TEN college crates in the scarybasementwithspiders. And get brown ribbon, red duct tape, and black electrical tape. Oh, and fake glasses, because I can't go around in the real ones anymore - awesome and red though they are - because they are the wrong prescription and things just get blurry. It's bad enough with only one eye free, I can't be all blurry in it too.

And last year I totally broke some Dealer's Room guy's shot glass and it was sad and fail.

3. The fake glasses will be necessary for the other costume too. I also need tights and a belt. I just know I am going to be OCD about this belt, man.

4. And, oh yeah, all the other sewing I have to do that is not so complicated but still time-consuming.

5. Hairpins. Or maybe one big clip? I am thinking of a method that involves hairspray and bobby pins but as I am incapable of doing my own hair beyond a ponytail or simple braid I haven't been able to test it.

...At least I have one pair of shoes. And no wigs! Is no wigs a fair trade-off for potentially ruining something that's supposed to be awesome?

Oh, right, and I'm a big ballofstress because I have a job interview tomorrow for which I must write a sample news story. ...What the heck. I love writing but I'm not sure my, um, preferred style is what our local newspaper is looking for? So not all of my stress is costume. By tomorrow afternoon I hope to be significantly more motivated on costume stuff. The black parts, at least, need to be finished by tomorrow - I can do them as I work on my friend's T-shirt quilt.

Hey, it's a great excuse to have out the sewing machine.

TEAL PENGUIN holy lorelei tomorrow is stressful and Otakon is in 8 days aaaah.

Vague second costume is not vague at all if you know me in any capacity.
