Weekend

My ideal weekend is one where I have to demonstrate as little sociability as possible, so that I can recharge and gird my loins for another week of work. Work being, after all, a situation where I have to interact with people. I've concluded that I'm asocial - sometimes I want to be sociable, sometimes I want to be by myself. Going to the extreme in the former case leaves me rather grouchy and impatient; going to the extreme in the latter case leaves me lonely. So, ya know, balance. Hence I usually don't do stuff with people on the weekends.

By that definition, this weekend has sucked horribly. By other definitions, it hasn't been too bad until tonight though. Went and spent Saturday afternoon/evening, overnighted to Sunday morning/early afternoon with parents. Saturday afternoon planned activities included helping them clean out their cellar (well, at least, make a dent in the dirt), move a bunch of shingles in there, move some long planks in there, and raise my parents' new flag pole. All of which were done.

Saturday afternoon unplanned activities included discovering a disgusting infestation of carpenter ants in the shingles (this met with ant-killing spray, stomping, and boiling water) and seeing a large black bear in the distance down the road. Then on Sunday we went and saw the Simpsons movie, which was very funny, though I do have to wonder about the fate of spider pig.

Then I get home from that, and find a message on my machine from Kilmer, which from a followup call basically amounted to "come in to work, these people are wanting tons of last-minute crap". And here I am, at work, doing work (well, ok, taking a break from that to post on LJ), on Sunday evening, and not getting to be nearly as asocial as I want. I suspect I will be rather snippy by Friday.

On a completely unrelated note, yay for a gazillion different versions (mostly different languages - I always like hearing the same song in different languages) of my current favorite Blind Guardian song: http://www.curufin.com/bg/harvest/

ETA: I got home from work about 1:15 am, and fell into bed. Just woke up, as "fell into bed" did not include "set the alarm clock". Will probably be about an hour late for work today and honestly can't say that I mind.
