Castiel watched the she-demon with an odd sense of foreboding in his gut. Her sudden and unheralded appearance didn’t sit right, especially since not even Sam had known she was coming. That in and of itself should have set of some kind of alarm bells, but what irked him even more was the way she kept looking back and forth between himself and Dean.

They were standing in the parking lot of the diner across from the Winchester’s motel, and for a moment Castiel thought to himself why he seemed to be spending so much more time with the brothers. He shook his head minutely and chalked it up to his order of protecting Dean, and yet something deep down told him it was more then that.

Ruby looked around, eyes meeting Castiel’s as she seemed to be deciding a course of action. Before Castiel could move she had grabbed Dean by the arm and pinned him to the side of the building, pressing their lips together in some sort of twisted kiss.

Sam’s gasp of shock was drowned out as Castiel’s blood pumped furiously in his own ears as he watched the two. Dean did not seem to struggle for a moment and something curled in Castiel’s gut. A little green eyed something.

“Ruby!” In the end it was Sam that pulled the two of them apart, not Castiel, and Dean himself had not pushed the demon away. That last fact more then anything was what made Castiel turn away.

Little smatterings of conversation met his ears as he walked back towards their motel room. Funny he thought of it as theirs, seeing as he had only spent one night there, but the small ugly room held a special kind of meaning to him.

“Ruby! What the hell?!” Ah, Dean. It seemed he had gained back the use of his mouth, but that did little to calm what Castiel was feeling.

“Ruby, why would you do something like that? I thought we” Sam was obviously just as confused as everyone else.

Castiel did not here what the demon had to say for herself, he was already back in the room. He had taken the liberty of simply ‘poofing’ back, as Dean called it. He paced the small area, trying to get a handle on his emotions. He stopped.

Emotions?

With a heavy, world weary sigh Castiel fell back to sit on Dean’s bed, the same one he had woken up in that morning, and dropped his head into his hands. He was having emotions. And this particular one was not completely new to him. He had felt the beginnings of it when he had watched Dean kiss Anna those few days before.

Anna was still a sore subject with the brothers so Castiel didn’t bring it up, but now he felt he needed to think it over himself. Why had seeing Dean with Anna and Ruby brought out these feelings?

Unfortunately he was not given time to think when Dean stormed into the room and slammed the door behind him.

“Stupid demon whore,” Dean mumbled, pacing by the door and seemingly unknowing of Castiel’s presence. “And just why did you run off?” Maybe not.

Dean stopped pacing and looked at Castiel sharply. “Coulda used you out there man, that chick is all kinds of crazy. She said she just couldn’t control herself, wanted to know what I tasted like.” He shivered. “That’s just all kinds of stalker-ish .”

The corner of Castiel’s mouth turned up and Dean glared at him. “This is so not funny man, and you still didn’t answer my question.”

Castiel though for a moment and looked Dean in the eye, “I left because I felt something I should not.”

Dean put his hands on his hips and looked at the angel curiously, noticing for what seemed like the first time that the trench was missing. “Something you shouldn’t?” Dean asked. Castiel nodded but didn’t elaborate.

“Okay, I’ll bite.” Dean said, “What did you feel?”

Castiel stood and moved to stand just in front of Dean, reaching out a hand to touch the hunter’s cheek. Dean flinched but did not draw away, something Castiel was grateful for. All he saw in those hazel eyes was pure curiosity.

Castiel took a breath and answered Dean honestly, “Envy.”

And then he kissed him.

This time it was Alastair that checked a mark into the wall. “Well, I think Dean was more fun to watch then that angel of yours. There’s got to be something that can break down his holy walls.”

Lilith stroked the head of one of her Hell Hounds as she idly sliced into the chest of a woman on the rack beside her. The woman opened her mouth as if to scream but now sound came out. Lilith smiled and pursed her lips, tucking a stray hair back behind her ear with a bloody hand, smearing red across her forehead. “He will break,” she said firmly. “The seven sins are like a package deal. You start on one and you have to get them all. Besides,” Lilith took a moment to make another cut in her current play thing. “I want to play with him, I’ve never had an angel to play with. And I always get what I want.”

Alastair grinned maniacally as Lilith plunged her hand into the recently made cut. The woman thrashed in her bindings, mouth open impossibly wide s she thrashed about. In moments her movements ceased and Lilith removed her hand, blood and other bodily tissues slopping to the ground and sizzling. “Oh shoot, I broke it. Alastair get me another one, I need to keep practicing so I’m ready when my real toy gets here.”

“Yes my queen.” And with a mock bow Alastair left, leaving Lilith with her Hell Hound and her mess.
