Castiel had never really slept before. He had let his vessel rest when he was not residing in it, but he had never gotten the chance to actually sleep in it. So when Samuel - Sam - he told himself, had asked when the last time he slept was, he had replied honestly.

“You’ve never slept?” Sam asked incredulously, turning over his shoulder to look at Dean coming out of the small motel bathroom.

Castiel clasped his hand in front of him and avoided both of the brothers’ eyes. For some reason he could not identify he felt embarrassed. “I’ve have never had the need for sleep,” he said honestly, “nor the time.”

“You’ve got time now right?” Dean asked, leaning against the bathroom doorway. “I mean Sammy and I are about to turn in, so why not stay here?”

Castiel did look up then, seeing nothing but hospitality and a slight concern in the elder Winchester’s hazel eyes. He chanced a look at Samue - Sam, and saw the same thing in the Boy King’s eyes as well. “I would not want to burden the two of you, I can simply leave my vessel at a church and return home for a time.”

Dean shook his head and walked forward, putting an hand on Castiel’s shoulder and pretending not to notice when the angel stiffened under his touch. “That’s crazy, you haven’t lived until you’ve had a nice long sleep believe me. And this gives Sammy and me the excuse to sleep in tomorrow.” The mirth in Dean’s eyes made Castiel a bit worried, but he trusted the brothers enough that he knew that they were not planning something… diabolical.

“Very well,” he said calmly. “I will sleep with you.”

Sam snorted and Dean scrunched up his face as he drew his hand away from Castiel, taking a step back. Castiel cocked his head to one side as he watched Sam wrap an arm around his stomach and sit down heavily on his bed, trying to hold in his laughter. He was failing.

“Did something I say amuse you?” Castiel asked, genuinely curious.

His question seemed to set Sam off further and Dean glared at his younger brother. “Dude, not cool.” Then he turned back to Castiel and ran a hand through his still wet hair, tugging at the neck of his t-shirt in what appeared to be a nervous gesture. “You’re not sleeping with me,” Dean said firmly. “You’re just sleeping in the same vicinity as me.”

Sam huffed out another small laugh as Dean stumbled through his explanation, but he was silenced by another glare form his brother.

“If we’re done having chick flick giggle fests can we go to sleep?” Dean asked, moving toward his own bed as Sam maneuvered himself around to get under his blankets.

Castiel stood immobile for a moment before Dean stepped back in front of him and grabbed his wrist. “Come on Cupid, you’re with me. And not another word from you.” The last part was directed at Sam as the younger Winchester laughed again.

Dean sat on the edge of his bed and Castiel copied him, waiting to get his next move from the man.

When Dean began to lie down Castiel moved to follow him, but Dean sat back up with a heavy sigh and walked around the bed to stand in front of Castiel, who was still seated on the bed.  “You can’t sleep in all that,” Dean ordered, slipping his hands under the shoulders of Castiel’s jacket and removing the bulky garment.

Castiel remained still as Dean gave him a once over before reaching forward again and unknotting the angel’s tie, sliding it off and chucking it to the floor with the coat. He then knelt gracefully at Castiel’s feet and proceeded to remove the spotless Italian loafers. When he looked up his eyes met Castiel’s and the angel saw red tint the hunter’s cheeks before Dean quickly stood up.

“You have your moment?” Sam asked, now sitting up in his bead and smiling at the two of them.

Dean made a rude hand gesture and climbed back into bed, rolling onto his side so that his back was to Castiel.

Castiel watched Sam shake his head and roll over to flip off the lamp that had been their light, bathing the room in blackness. Castiel remained seated and didn’t move until Dean rolled over and flipped back the covers. “Come on,” he said, exasperation coloring his voice. “I’m not gonna sleep if you’re just sitting there like a creeper.”

The corner of Castiel’s mouth twitched up and he swung his legs into the bed, curling onto his side to face Dean. The hunter sighed and closed his eyes, not turning back onto his other side like Castiel thought he would have.

When morning came Castiel woke refreshed, rested and with an arm around his waist. From what he could tell both brothers were still asleep, and he had no reason to actually get up. So for the moment he was content to snuggle further into the warmth that the blankets and Dean provided. Something inside himself told him the hunter would not be in the best of moods if woken to this circumstance, but he would allow himself to indulge in the peace he was so rarely given.

Being lazy this once couldn’t hurt.

“Well that wasn’t nearly as fun as the last one,” Lilith pouted, ticking off another mark on her black wall. “I hope the next one is greed, or envy.”

The sick smell of burning flesh filled the small area she was in and Alastair grinned at her over his most recent pet project. “If you’re in such a hurry why don’t you send someone up there to help the angel along.” He slid a meat hook into the thigh of his victim, both demons reveling in the scream of pained anguish. “And I think I have just the candidate.”

Lilith smiled and twirled her hair around one small finger. “I think I agree with you, Ruby would make a great new player in our little team.” She all but skipped over to the rack Alastair was working on and ran a hand down Ruby’s stomach. “You’ll help me won’t you Ruby?” She asked sweetly. “You’ll help get that mean old angel?”

Ruby closed her eyes and only hoped Sam could forgive her.
