can't beat karate when it comes to regulated, sanctioned violence for children.

HIIIIIII LIVEJOURNAL. I've missed you!!!!! I mean, tumblr is great at being casual and low key, but sometimes I just want to love/hate IN PEACE. Like, what if I want to talk in-depth about how tragic Ian Somerhalder's face is or how people need to stop idolizing Aaron Sorkin (wtffff) or how Vampire Diaries' fandom is wrong about ALL THE THINGS or how I will never let go of Rashida Jones as Lois Lane? Exactly.

+ IDK where this was going but I am watching Shameless and I'm liking it a lot, surprisingly. I've managed to get through most of it in about two days. I don't know if I can objectively call it a great show, but every character is so layered and developed and endearing that I can't help but love it. Families/found families is one of my favorite fictional tropes--people working together and loving and supporting each other even when they don't have to just gives me so. many. feelings.

Except for Steve. Steve can go. My admittedly irrational dislike of Justin Chatwin is at play here, but I find Steve's whole attitude towards Fiona and the Gallaghers so patronizing. I don't care about your rich kid entitlement issues, dude. And I just feel like--sometimes the show frames Steve/Fiona's relationship as something good because it allows Fiona to lighten up, and while I like the idea of that, I don't see that. And I guess I'm overly protective of Fiona because oh my god, Emmy Rossum is KILLING it here. I can't with her face.

Ian/Mickey is my favorite! Ugh we see so little of their relationship but IAN GALLAGHER IS THE BEST AT GIVING THESE SMALL, SHY, SECRETIVE SMILES that Mickey will sometimes slightly reciprocate and it is wonderful. Also wonderful: MANDY and the idea of Lip/Mandy which I am really really REALLY into. Apparently it was a thing on the UK version so now I have all this false hope and will probably only be let down BUT: "Pirate wench?" "You like?" I'M JUST SAYING.

+ I'm excited for Game of Thrones on Sunday, which better be good because I need one show to fulfill all my period/fantasy drama needs. Camelot is terrible and The Borgias is good, but a little too dry for me right now, idk. And of course, DOCTOR WHO NEXT WEEKEND!!!!! (Sidebar: can we talk about how in my heart of hearts I still believe Martha Jones will show up again one day, as fabulous as ever? I mean, I know it won't happen, but my heart can't let go.)

+ My birthday's been good! I'm not doing anything today but watching Parks and Rec and seeing how many doughnuts I can eat, but I'm going out tomorrow and going to a party on Saturday, so I have a social life! SUCCESS.

shameless, hdtv has better resolution than reality
