Like I said, the economy is in a down turn and I think it behooves us to try and get the most out of our events that we can, keep the cost down so everyone can attend, and start to change our attitude about how events are run - food wise and hall choice wise. Its great to have a big site with lots of class space, but if we're only getting 40-60 people, we need to scale down our grandiose ideas about what we need in a hall.
I've been packing lunches for Gareth and I for almost a year. He doesnt eat until after fighting, and I cant wait that long, or my blood sugars get out of whack. So rather than get sick, I prepack so that I can eat when I need to.
The US vs THEM and the hurt/apology - interpretation of events is in the eye of the beholder. We only ever remember the bad stuff that happens to us, not what we do in return. So some of the moving on needs to be letting go of the past/ what has been done to us and what we have done. Shake it off and move forward. Sure, some people will never be friends again, doesnt meant that we cant move on.
Potlucks are great for small events, but when you hit the 40 mark, it becomes unwieldy. the 26 we had this weekend was pretty much the limit of a potluck - escpecially a non structured one. I waited until the night before to determine what other people were bringing so we wouldnt all be eating the same thing. I made enough pork for 16 people, and there just wasnt enough to go around. Potlucks for over 20 are like trying to herd cats.
A couple of us are going to be trying out new themes for events - watch for them coming up..... :)
