One of the many reasons we moved to Oamaru was the weather. It's a lot drier here than wet, humid Auckland ( Read more... )

It's stopped raining pretty much (we topped the list of wet places) and there's been a lot of damage (not to our place except for a little water in the basement) but the roads are open enough for us to get to Christchurch next week. I went to the supermarket for the shopping I didn't do yesterday due to the weather and I noticed there's no bread left. We're fine for bread as the local German bakery is still making plenty of yummy sourdough, but I'm sure there'll be more shortages coming. There haven't been road or rail deliveries for a couple of days and I'm not sure when they'll resume.

I hope the food deliveries start up again soon. Glad you only had a little water in the basement. There was footage on the TV tonight of a wet looking Oamaru which made me wince a bit. :(

That was probably Damien McNamara's drone footage. He's an amateur astronomer who photographs auroras (not often seen with the naked eye) and we've been to two of his talks.

The park opposite the gym today was still a huge lake with lots of ducks and other birds enjoying it. The water will take a while to drain away everywhere.

It sounds horrible. I hope you are safe in your nice house! In my country too we have had too much rain and had some serious damage in some area though fortunately not around here. These odd weather might be because of the global warming?, I'm afraid...

We're fine, but a lot of houses were flooded. The local park has a lake that wasn't there before which I think will drain away slowly.

THis is quite serious, isn´t it? I hope everything will be all right with your house , the elements can do lots of damage.
I think of you, stay safe and travel well. Just take care, all of you!

We were fine except for a little water in our basement. Other people weren't so lucky and have suffered a lot of damage to their houses and possessions. The sun is shining today and most of the roads are open which is a relief.

Glad to hear you're safe and sound. I saw some footage on the news here, it looked frightening. Poor Christchurch too, as if it hasn't had enough problems in recent years.

They got a fraction of our rainfall, but they're basically on a swamp so it doesn't take much to flood the flat bits.

I hope the weather clears soon. Stay safe! Our cats are sulking at the moment because the weather is foul here. I hoe yours are coping with the weather all right.

They're fine. They come from Auckland so they're used to lots of rain. They do look at us accusingly though, assuming we arranged it. The weather's back to normal now, and it seems the mouse plague ios back too - two dead ones here inside in two days, plus today there are feathers and no bird. Yuck.
