thank you :D

and the answer to your wish there is, yes and no (because there will be shopping for christmas gifts, making of mince pies, hopefully viewing of muppet christmas carol sing-along, and a meal that they insisted i get the set menu for, which i dont think they would have done if it hadn't been december, and the meal is usually the last time my friends all see each other before christmas) BUT - i don't mind at all because i like christmas stuff. so, that's all right.

That's cool, then - enjoy! A friend whose birthday is on the 26th always felt left out. Why the set menu though? Because it's easier with packed restaurants? That's usually the case here too.

Does Erin enjoy all the festivities? I bought mince pies yesterday, the ones with the Magen Davids on top (see icon of previous ones) and I have a summer tree to celebrate the season. I will post about that.

re- set menu: i actually do not know. they said it was because we were a large party..... but my friend went there with a large party earlier in the year. so. it was very nice, though. and i dont think anyone felt there wasn't enough cheese (which would have been the other option i was interested in. going to a cheese tasting). there was a lot of cheese.

as for erin and christmas - erin is besotted with christmas. her sister is much more orthodox and doesn't do christmas any more, but it's something that erin's family have always done on a massive scale. i like your jewish mince pies! we haven't made ours yet, so perhaps we could have a few as well. actually, earlier in the year i made erin some star of david hot cross buns. i quite like the idea of sharing ones non-secular food with other religions, even though it is probably wrong.... i am not religious, though, so it's appropriation however you look at it.

i'm excited about summer tree. looking forward to that post.

I think it's open slather on food as I can't think off-hand of any that's connected to religion rather than being evolved (and evolving) custom. Jewish food differs in different regions anyway: Sefardi is of course very middle-eastern.

As for Christmas, its customs come from Druidsm, Norse mythology, the Roman Saturnalia, celebration of the solstice, summer in my case. In fact that's something that pisses me off every year: shops and individuals pretending it's winter. Stop appropriating and build your own customs, peeps!

I tool photos of my summer-holiday lights last night. They may not be very good but I'll have a go at posting them later today.

I am enjoying it so far. I now have a lovely snow leopard cub and my mum and dad dropped by bringing home made jam and chutney.

Yum, chutney! Greg's sister makes really good chutney so we're lucky there too.

But, a snow leopard cub? Tell me more! I have a plush snow (actually Bengal white) tiger cub and about seven others/ :-D

This one

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plush-Leopard-Multi-poseable-Hansa-5409/dp/B005MNTKQ0/

It is by Hansa and it is the closest to a real cub that was in my daugter's price range. (Though she didn't pay £42 for it, it was cheaper from another Amazon store)

ADORABLE! I've cuddled and played with white tiger cubs and they have those blue eyes.
