Nalu is indeed the hawai'ian word for 'wave'. :o) My older sister bought me some hawai'ian spun yarn in hopes that I would take up knitting. The yarn is still sitting on top of my bureau staring at me. I keep intending to learn, but get easily intimidated. Ah well. One of these months...

BTW I think the pattern-maker is either Hawaiian or has spent time there because she calls them Nalu mitts, saying that "nalu" means "wave". :-)
