We're not sure exactly how old Ashley is, but going by the vet's estimate she's now one year old, and rates a new grown-up icon. I did consider setting her birthday to be the same as mine, which would also make her exactly three months older than Jasmin (who was born on 28 July), but decided that was unfair as I'm usually out celebrating. So we ( Read more... )

The XKCD cartoon it comes from is almost painfully accurate. :)

Oh, it is! I remember that one. :-P

I keep asking them questions I know they won't answer. A post in linguaphiles had research that mothers in all cultures do that to stimulate speech. [hangs head in shame] It's not going to work, and the fact that I have any maternal instinct at all is just unnerving.

I took Shiraz on longish train trips a couple of times. Quite a few people came to peer into the basket and then exclaimed 'A cat.'
Yes, well done. 10 out of 10 for pointing out the bleeding obvious.

Who is this bald person with the cat on his shoulders?

That's Charles Xavier, leader of the X-Men, as portrayed in one of the Ultimate X-Men comics.

And I do believe the kitty is one of his students, who could switch between human and kitty form.

Not as I recall, although I suppose it could have been revealed after I stopped reading UXM. But as far as I know, the cat is just named after the shapechanger Mystique (Charles's ex-girlfriend in UXM canon), without actually being a shape-changing mutant.

Then I must have mistaken this cat for a different one. It has been fifteen years since I read X-men, but I do remember quite clearly a girl who could change into a cat and back.
