Wow, it's been rather long since I last posted on here. I'm sorry about that. Well, I went on my trip to Disney World and I've been back for a couple weeks now. For the short time that I went there (3.5 days), I had a lot of fun and I went on practically every ride/show that I wanted to go on. The Enchanted Tiki Room is the only thing I really missed. I wanted to see what it was like with the new birds (Zazu and Iago), plus the Tiki Room Song is one of my favorites. "Where the birds all sing and the flowers bloom, in the tiki tiki tiki tiki room." XD Otherwise, it's been relatively normal around here. Read: boring as boring can be. It snowed a lot over the last couple weeks. In fact, it's snowing again as I type this.

I have grade updates! I got back exams and my daily grades last week.
Life Drawing (figure drawing): A
Geology: A
Organic Chemistry: 74% on the first exam
74% isn't that bad, but I know I could have/should have done better. I really need to keep up with the homework and note-taking for the next round. The lab part of Organic has been all right. I got 19/20 on the first experiment.

I didn't really want to do another meme so soon, but I have one for this post too. Unless you want me to ask you five random questions (what the meme is about), I'm not posting it up here. I kinda fell behind with doing responses for the last meme. Anyway, here's the questions vovat asked me and my answers:

1. Which is your favorite Oz book?
For all around plot and characters, I think my favorite Oz book is The Patchwork Girl of Oz. Two of my all-time favorite characters are Scraps and the Woozy. I don't think the Woozy get's used often enough. I plan on utilizing his character in my own stories. For humor, my favorite Oz book is Tik-Tok of Oz. It has some of the best jokes of the series, or at least for Baum's contribution. I may like the jokes mostly because the book was originally written as a musical play. It's also a favorite because we get to see more of the Nome King. He's got to be one of the best villians in literature.

2. What do you think of how The Road to Oz refers to Knooks as tending to trees, when earlier books made them the guardians of animals?
I kind of answered this already in my posts to Regalia, but I'll answer again. For logical reasons, I think Baum simply replaced the Nymphs with the Knooks. 1) They're his original characters, not borrowed from other mythologies. 2) His mythology is closer to the style of the Celts and the Norse-Germanic, so the Greek Nymphs are rather out of place. 3) Nymphs are typically associated with romance and young love--something Baum mostly avoided in his books for children. The hard and crusty, yet funny, Knooks were more adaptable to his story needs than Nymphs. Now for an in-universe answer: As huamsn gained prominence in the world, Animal Fairies came into existence and quickly served the regular animals. Animal Fairies fulfilled the animals' wishes to have their own paradise free from humans, plus gave the animals powers of semi-invisibility, to hide more easily from man. Knooks didn't have the awesome powers that these new Animal Fairies had, and so retreated more and more into the woods. However, they still maintained a bond with humans. In fact, their bond became stronger with humans than animals. They took on an appearance their human comrades were comfortable with--human-shaped, yet also tree-shaped to hide amongst the woods. Nymphs were shy of humans and stayed mostly in the Forest of Burzee. So it was up to another race of immortals to watch over the woods of the human world. Knooks took over.

3. Have you ever danced with the Devil by the pale moonlight?
No, and I don't plan on it either. I know better than to set foot into fairy rings and the Devil's tramping grounds. I don't want to be whisked away to the Otherworld forever.

4. Would you rather have a private plane, a flying carpet, or an airship?
Airships and magic carpets are more fun and exciting than private planes, but I would have to choose the private plane. I don't have to drive a plane myself, and they are relatively small enough to land at any airport. I'm not piloting my own airship unless Uncle "Fuck This Shit" Cid Highwind can do it for me. Magic carpets are great, but you can't fit very much on them. Plus, who wants to get bird feathers and insects fly into their mouth every few seconds? Not me! At least private planes run on a visible, tangible fuel. Who knows what makes magic carpets go and when they might "run out of gas".

5. If you had to raise a baby dragon, what would you feed it?
Based on my reading experience from Discworld and other books, I would feed it a very carefully selected diet. Absolutely nothing that would set off their flames at random, like beans or spicy meat. A vegetarian dragon would be best, but then I have to worry about methane flames--and shooting out the wrong end at that! Maybe I would just hand it over to Hagrid or Sybill instead.
