Poll SERIOUS BUSINESS QUESTION

I'm kind of tickled pink by this idea but I hear that it is HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL. So now I am curious what the internet thinks. =D

ETA: As people are telling me, Arthur probably does not have a canon last name (nor Eames a canon first name). So I guess the more accurate question is: DOES IT AMUSE YOU TO THINK ARTHUR'S LAST NAME MIGHT BE ( Read more... )

I've heard arguments for and against using Darling for his surname, but I personally really like the idea. I think it's fun, it's silly, and the irony of calling one of the most badass characters by what is essentially a floofy pet name appeals to me.

From what I've seen, the reason(s) people don't like it are all centered around the Eames/Arthur ship. Shippers say it reduces their ~*~*EPIC LOVE*~*~ by turning Eames' little comment into nothing more than a statement of fact, where non-shippers don't like it for... the opposite reason? I don't even know. People get vehement, and I just end up saying, "I respect your opinion, let's agree to disagree, fandom is for fun not 'being right'. D:"

So when I write fic, I tend to use it for a last name when I need one, just because there isn't an alternative. It's the name I use when I need a name for Arthur, but I don't think it's Arthur's ~*~*~true and secret name fluffy bunnies omg~*~*~. What with all the grief it gives people (there are a few comments in the general discussion thread on the kinkmeme, if you want to see) it's easier just to sidestep the issue entirely.

SO THERE IS MY TWO CENTS. :D I'LL STOP WRITING LONG COMMENTS NOW.
