I never answer these things because I am mortally afraid that I will not be able to come up with good questions for everyone. SO!
Leave me a comment saying "rainbow". Too boring. Instead you must type "DEATH THE KID LOVES SYMMETRY."
I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.
1. You're one of the most devout fic readers/writers I have on my FL, so I have to know: what do you look for in good fic? Do you try to remember to adhere to that when you write fic yourself?
First and foremost I look for good 'form': a fic that has good grammar, proper paragraph spacing, etc. If you have a quotation that doesn't end with a punctuation mark, chances are very high that no matter how good the fic is I'll press the 'back' button. Pet peeve, I guess. After that, I look for good characterization. I can tolerate an insane amount of cliches in fic, as long as the characters remain true to how they read in the original series. Thirdly - almost as important as characterization - is if the fic has the same 'feel' as the original series. If the canon is written, I want the fic to emulate that writing style. If the canon is ethereal/gritty/etc., I also want fic to emulate that. Finally, my biggest 'turn-on' is gen/canonical pairings, and a good, plotty, meaty story. Oh, yeah, baby. ♥ (I also have a thing for hurt-comfort, which means I'll forgive some things I wouldn't normally for some character whumping, uh.)
When I write fic myself I always strive for good spelling/grammar, of course, and my main focus is always characterization. I try to imagine the characters saying the words that I put in their mouths, and if it seems weird to me, then I'll have to edit. I love trying to emulate writing styles for book!canon, but when it's a manga or a TV show I'm mostly focused on making the characters talk like/act like their canonical selves. I'm not good at writing plotty stuff, mostly because I lose track of what I'm writing or get bored before the story ends.
Wow, sorry for that long reply, orz.
2. Living in an area like DC, you're obviously exposed a lot to political bureaucracy and politics and the like. Do you think that has help drive you toward interest in politics, or has you kind of developed a natural self-defense towards it?
Well, I think it's an interesting effect that living in DC the National News and the Local News have a heavy intersection. What happens in Congress/the White House is absolutely local information, so we get the same stories twice. :) As for my own interest in politics, well, that's almost entirely family-driven. My mom is a devout Conservative and my father was one too (don't know where he stands politically these days), so I grew up in a fiercely republican household; you learn some of your behavior from your parents, so I pay attention to politics because I grew up paying attention to politics. That being said, my interest in economics cropped up a whole new set of values for me, and I'm very nearly liberterian these days - something that would probably piss my mom off. XD;
3. Who is the person you count on the most for anything, and why?
ryomoki is the person I can depend on the most. She and I don't see eye to eye on a few things, but when I need help with anything she is absolutely there for me - moral support, friendly advice, shoves in the right direction, and encouragement when I need it.
I also count
halcyonjazz,
rukawagf,
killyoudead,
yoiyami, and
moonsheen amongst some of my closest friends. They are all very dear to my heart and let me rant in their ears about, like, everything under the sun. =D
4. Okay, dish. Customer pet peeves?
OH MAN. My stupid pet peeves are really ridiculous and there are many of them. not all of them are sensible okay.
I hate it when people ask for more bread, especially if their food is about to come out.
Related to the above, I hate it when people ask for bread before I finish the greet spiel. SERIOUSLY GUYS YES YOUR BREAD IS COMING. SHEESH.
I hate it when people ask for straws for their water.
I hate it when people interrupt me while I'm doing my spiel to demand their drink choices.
I hate it when people won't put down their cell phones/stop talking to each other so I can talk to them.
I hate it when people sit around at their table for a million hours after eating.
I hate it when people won't pay their check in a timely manner, especially late at night. (THIS IS WHY I AM HOVERING OVER YOU. TAKE THE HINT.)
I hate it when people need 1001 things to go with their meal and they send me back for them one thing at a time.
I hate it when people complain about their food after they've mostly finished it.
I'm sure there's more but that's off the top of my head.
5. We know you carry a lot of stuff in your car. So a hypothetical: say you were blessed with a soccer mom vehicle like I drive, and let's say I were to visit you one year later. Would your car still have space to sit in, or would you have found a way to fill it full of stuff?
Guys, guys, this translates to: Vikki is a pig. Which is true. Organization escapes me. Also, I have too much stuff.
The answer is, I have no idea, dude. XD;; I'd love to say, oh yeah, there'd be room! But in all likelihood I'd find a way to trash that too. @___@;
WELL GUYS HIT ME.
ETA RE:AUSA: YOUR MISSION, SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT, IS TO FIGURE OUT WHERE/WHO I AM. Because I will not be cosplaying. But I won't exactly look like 'me', either. HAH HAH HAH.
