This cutscene does not do the graphics justice, but it's Youtube. Game is PRETTY and NOT PRERENDERED. In-game graphics is what you are beholding.

So there are those of you who saw Zero Production's delightfully scathing review of DMC4. I'd say his crits are definitely warranted - the fixed camera scenes are as frustrating as ever (thank you, Resident Evil roots), and yeah, there are certain cutscenes where I go "OMG BATTLE!" and then Nero kicks everyone's ass for me, but still. STILL.
THIS GAME IS SO DAMN PRETTY. Seriously. As a flagship game to just show HOW PRETTY the PS3 in-game graphics are, DMC4 gets the job done. There was a part when I was running into a corner and going 'huh, why am I glowing?' Turned out it was the SUN GLINTING OFF MY CHARACTER'S HAIR. The enemies are well-rendered, and the environments are intensely beautiful. There's so much detail everywhere - it's incredibly impressive.
All the cutscenes are in-game graphics. They're approximately as beautiful as the PS2 pre-rendered cutscenes for FF10.
So the first half of the game centers around Nero - who, uh, looks like Dante, dresses like Dante, acts like Dante, and fights like Dante. I have no idea why they decided to create this guy. He's very pretty, like a young Dante. He also has an actual Love Interest (unlike Dante) with the incestuous undertones I've come to expect from Devil May Cry games. The cool new feature he brings to the game, however, would be the devil-grabbing arm, which yanks your enemies up to you (or offers a kickass throw move) for awesome combos of awesome. (He also carries one gun that shoots two bullets at once.) I'm kind of indifferent to him.
If you idle long enough, he looks at his devil-arm in an Emo-tastic manner. I fear I'm doomed to cosplay him, if only because of his arm. >___>;;
Dante, on the other hand, continues to be BAD ASS. He's fucking HOT. The stubble on the chin? yes. fuck yes. He's also still carrying his trusted Ebony&Ivory and Rebellion, which makes me inordinately happy. I should probably mention that in the cutscenes you did not see above, Dante is pretty much kicking Nero's ass. Also, Dante starts the game off by killing the Pope. (obviously more is going on here. But seriously, a game that starts off with a closeup of Dante with blood on his face? How can you say no!?) Apparently you play as him for the second half of the game. I can't wait.
Re: Gameplay - so much more satisfying than DMC2. I've only played a few parts of DMC3 and found it more challenging than DMC4, but I was also playing DMC4 on 'easy' mode and with automatic combos on, so I kept doing awesome things without even trying. Nero has a demon-grabbing arm that can yank your enemies up to you, which is wonderfully convenient for awesome combos. He also has some really badass combos, and one combo where you SLAM your ENEMY INTO the GROUND as HARD as you CAN three or four times like you're having a bad day and taking it out on the closest devil.
You can get some really high combos and I'm only on mission 3. There's a decent number of enemies when you need 'em.
Like I've said, the cutscenes are lovely, but I do wish that some of the awesome battle cutscenes would end with more baddies for you to fight. There was a nice tribute to Dante's 'surf on the baddy' move from DMC3 in one cut though. XD;
Oh, and did you notice? Dante still has magical Clothing-Healing abilities,
just like in Devil May Cry the First. I guess some things just never change. XD;;
