It's not as easy as willing it all to be right

Strange day at work, especially given horrificness of Thursday...The 'bitchy' manager was all complimentary today; lots of 'great job's and 'thank you's and it was just weird, because none of the managers are like that, and this one is more likely to bite your head off for not being able to pat your head, rub your tummy, package a dozen bagels and make four cafe mochas all at the same time. I shit you not.

Watched the Jericho season 2 commentaries last night and today (went I wasn't falling asleep). Still foiled by skippage. *shakes fist a la Scarlett* Damn you library users who have no respect for the property of others! (As a taxpayer, these discs are actually mine. They are yours too, so you'd think you'd be a little more careful.) But I digress. I bring this up to, once again, say that I really liked this show, am really upset the ending was so rushed, and, well, that's it.

So now I'm writing and listening to, you guessed it, NCIS because there's a marathon and I'm pathetic and what else would I be doing on a Saturday night when I don't have to work tomorrow?

Anyhow, I mention it because it reminds me of something that consistently ticks me off about tv shows not set in New York or LA. Shows have military experts, FBI consultants, dialect coaches, etc and so forth. But what they really need is SOMEONE WHO HAS LIVED IN THE CITY/TOWN/STATE WHERE THE STORY IS SET. Seriously. There are no clubs in Lexington Park, Maryland; one cannot get from DC to Norfolk, Virginia and back twice in one day and do anything but drive all day; the Navy Yard is in a ridiculously horrible neighborhood, and one would think that would come up in seven seasons? (that's for you, NCIS) There is NO LAKE remotely close to DC that will freeze enough to ice fish in the winter; it's a long drive from DC to West Virginia in rush hour (even though crazy people commute daily); Prince George's County isn't really the hicks (in fact, it's a suburban ghetto. Seriously); if there was such a place as the Annapolis Golf Course (or whatever they called it), it would be in Maryland (what with Annapolis being the state's capital), not Virginia. (yes, that was for you, Bones) Criminal Minds does this every once in a while, but as they always travel to new cities and don't really spend much time in Quantico, I can let it slide (though who knows if they get their 'locations' right). I'm not as familiar with Baltimore, but Homicide: Life on the Street and The Wire both filmed in the city, so everyone I knew who had lived up there were happy with how they dealt with the area (and there were lots of Baltimorians (?) addicted to both of those shows. Mostly because they were awesome).

I loved The West Wing for lots of reasons. But I think this might be a big one. They regularly filmed in DC, and they knew people here, they had reality checks. So I wasn't constantly jerked out of the story with a big fat WTF?!?!?!?!

This is my only frame of reference, really. So I have no idea if anyone else feels the same way? Anyone else have a similar qualm? Chicagoans pissed about ER or Chicago Hope (or Early Edition or Due South or...)? Bostonians irate about Leverage or Boston Public or Ally McBeal? Alaskans who hated Northern Exposure?

Also, is this an American thing? Do other countries get their regional information right? I didn't watch much tv in Belfast, so I don't know if the Beeb gets Belfast right, or if RTE gets Galway spot-on, etc. and so forth.

Yeah, I know this is a bit...odd...but it just gets me because it's always the stupid shit and I just want to see if I'm the only one...
