So there I was, sitting minding my own business when mrsbrown comes up to me and suggests an idea for a feast.

As some of you will know, monstah and I have been talking round the idea of running a feast with a dutch theme for ages. We both have dutch parents, and make our yearly pilgimage to the Dutch Festival every year. Now naturally, being the excellent procrastinators that we are, we have not actually run this feast, though we have looked at some period recipes, and even looked at a hall or two.

Recently I became better friends with mrsbrown and her crew. The whole bunch are shockingly competent. They actually get all the stuff done you dream about, like the period pavs, playing period music, making cool wooden things (like tenbears & mrbassman)etc. They also include some of my all-time classic "when I grow up in the sca I want to be like" people, like sjkasabi and doushkasmum who I met as a young and impressionable college kid, and who ten years later are not actually scary.

So naturally when I found out she had dutch heritage too, then we had to include her (and mr_bassman) in the team to for this year's Dutch Festival. We had an a great day marvelling at all the kitsch, and have been vaguely talking around dutch stuff since.

Saturday Night, at a Polish feast we were at, mrsbrown sits down next to me and says she wants to run a feast for the midwinter slot with a theme: Bruegel's Peasant Wedding. And of course being lots pregnant she is going to need people to do the heavy lifting... and of course monstah & I sprang to mind

(If you need a reminder, there is a pretty good pic of it here:

TALK ABOUT A RED RAG TO A BULL!!!

So I've been thinking about it a lot. It would be this weeks "interest".

* I have contacted evildrakey & he has sent me a bunch of links. Which I have already started sorting and printing.

*I have set up playdates with monstah to go over on Thursday nights to play-test these recipes. (Any volunteers to eat them are welcome). We've also started talking about who to headhunt for crew (again volunteers welcome)

* I am currently trying to organise another playdate with Chrissy van Tets - an old friend of a friend, who I found out translated half these recipes, and is currently in the country seeing her parents.

* I have fished out my old notes on Flemish kitchen-wear (darn that haldf my stuff being in th US - I have a perfectly serviceable one of those over there, and am looking at this later dutch stuff… why not if you can?

* I have emailed Alex the Potter to give me quotes on the earthenwear bits in the pic- I think he has a bunch in stock…

Now I guess I should start checking in with mrsbrown again…
