Last night was amazing. I was biking back to my apartment from my roommate's boyfriend's house at around one o'clock. I was freezing. I had my hoodie zipped up, my hat on low, my scarf wrapped around my face which made my glasses fog up, and my hood was pulled over my hat. Still I was freezing. I had reached a hill on my way and had to get off my bike so I could walk it up. Tired, cold, I had just finished listening to a sort of sad song so I was somewhat down. But then, it happened. The first few notes of the most amazing song ever. It's notes cut through the cold and the night.
Just a small town girl,Living in a lonely world. She took the midnight train going anywhere.
I started walking faster. The night let up off me and I was suddenly much warmer. It was coming.
Just a city boy,Born and raised in South Detroit. He took the midnight train going anywhere.
I was practically running at this point. The music built up and I grinned from ear to ear as I listened.
A singer in a smokey room,A smell of wine and cheap perfume. For a smile they can share the night,It goes on and on and on and on!
I jumped on my bike as the song reached a crescendo and rode away into the night, feeling the cold air hit my face and not caring. This was Journey. I made a fist and rocked out as I pedaled with all my might, then stopped that nonsense as I lost my balance and nearly ran into a light.
Strangers waiting,Up and down the boulevard.Their shadows searching in the night.
Streetlight people,Living just to find emotion.Hiding, somewhere in the night!
A short instrumental part allowed me enough time to head bang while I was in the middle of the road, safe from lights and small dogs.
Working hard to get my fill,Everybody wants a thrill.Paying anything to roll the dice,Just one more time.
Some will win,Some will lose. Some were born to sing the blues!Oh, the movie never ends,It goes on and on and on and on!
I nearly ran into a deer. It pranced out of the road and into someone's yard. I stopped my bike like they do in the movies, with a little screech as I pull it to the side. Nobody really stops bikes like this, I just did it cause I saw it in a movie. I've heard of deers running through small forest towns, but I'd never actually seen one. I listened to the bombastic music and watched the deer. The deer watched me too. I eventually nodded to it and continued on my way.
Strangers waiting,Up and down the boulevard.Their shadows searching in the night.
Streetlight people,Living just to find emotion.Hiding, somewhere in the night!
My favorite part came next, as a piercing electric guitar shot through my heart and sang to only me. As Steve Perry's voice pepped me up, all I could think of was "Yeah, don't stop believing!".
Don't stop believing!Hold on to the feeling!Streetlight people!
The song finished, I biked the rest of the way home in silence, no longer cold or tired, and happy as I could have possibly been. And you know what? I didn't stop believing. Not one bit. Yeah.
