My brother graduated last night. It was an incredibally emotional experience, both to see my brother graduate, and to be in the middle of something framiliar, like stepping into a memory, but feeling out of place, even in my own memory.
Anyways, I wanted to say that we, as the class of 2005, got screwed over big time with that senior party. The class of 2006 got to go to Gameworks, and there was Pizza there! That was the one thing that really vexed me about our party, that there were cookies, and marginally poor sandwiches, but no pizza, and they called it a party! And we shouldnt even really go into the Gameworks thing, because you cant even compare our location to that. Hmm... who was the mastermind that chose our location? I would Imagine that it was a parent of somebody who was impacted by the lunacy of the poker craze, because I can imagine her being like... "Where should we go?" The first thing that would go through her mind is what her son/daughter would like, because thats all she really concretely knows, right? And in trying to make a hard decision you look to whats concrete about your knowledge for confidence. She probably then was like Hey! My son likes poker. So she throws the idea out to the group of people there. They all think its a good idea, however i imagine the idea isnt recieved with great excitement.... so they try to attache the poker idea to a location, but nothing comes to mind other than a casino-type thing. So somebody has the idea of that military base, and they can put a casino in there! Whats more, for the rare individuals who are not obsessed with poker, there can be other things, like ping pong, music, and swimming! To me, thats how you concieve something that turns out to be mediocre; you dont grasp the heart of the issue. In this case, it is all centered around pizza. But really, you need a location that first and foremost is exciting. By going for a single interest you inherently leave out a majority of the people who will be there. Gameworks is exciting, and they had pizza. Those who didnt really like videogames could nonetheless feed off the exciting atmosphere instead of a random military base, or they could just eat pizza. Maybe im just partial because I never caught the poker bug. The hypnotist was pretty cool though... but honestly, I think the committee that put ours together let us down by not thinking about things clearly enough. For what its worth, I mean, it was 367 days ago and it was still somewhat fun, mostly to be with friends though, in spite of the enviroment
