Bloc Party @ McCarren Park

I got there later than expected due to me once again forgetting that the only train that goes by me didn't run to Manhattan on weekends. When I did get there I spotted seesindreams walking over. Sadly the thing that made me realize Patty was Patty was the Bloc Party bag. So then we ended up sweating bucketloads with vlamidala, whitestrpsrock, and his friend while waiting online even though it was only an hour before doors. All these wee babes (and I mean babies in strollers) kept going in early. Man I wish my parents were cool and took me to concerts VIP-style when I was younger.

The venue itself was pretty awesome. The stage is kinda high up but the outdoors do wonders especially when the life-saving breeze passes by. Anyway we managed to score pretty awesome spots despite there being a number of people in front of us (they immediately ran for Russell's side and I immediately ran the other way after my experience at Roseland).

Mew were on first. I had some of their songs and I was a bit 'meh' about seeing them because I wasn't really impressed with what I heard. But they turned out to be pretty good live. The bassist was fun to watch and the singer was adorable. Yeah, I totes saw seesindreams eying him.

Next were the Secret Machines whom I hadn't heard before but they also turned out to be pretty good. So with two good openers the gig was pretty promising.

While we were waiting Patty and I were giggling at the AWESOME security guards. Seriously they were so adorable, getting the crowd pumped up for Bloc Party and one of them was even bobbing his head to the openers (and I think he was in a band himself? I didn't quite catch that).

Then Bloc Party came on. I wasn't that excited for them, I guess the time between gigs allowed my love for them to wane, but it all came back when they played. It was awesome: I had room to spaz, air to breathe, and an awesome spot front row.

Gordy playing the xylophone for their new song "Waiting for the 7.18". Which is awesome.

Matt is a pale ghost

In the middle Kele read this:

said "fuck that shit" and came down to the crowd. Sorry the pics are rubbish, camera-whipping skillz are crap

Nick and Nick's friend's pale arms. There's writing on his hand and I realized when I zoomed in that it was a message about someones bday. He gave a shout out to the girl before the song.

Nick's friend caught the setlist:

Yeah that's like 6 songs shorter than the last two times I've seen them. Patty and I were both going 'WTF??' when they left the stage. But I guess it's all good because I've never seen Bloc Party so happy (they brought out the water guns and started spraying the crowd and Russell started spraying Gordy and Kele).

Then Patty and I went to get Bloc Party bags and I went home only to pass out.

On a side note, I just watched the WAS Oxygen Festival Diary and god I miss WAS so fucking much now. I will cry when they comes back to the states and I can't see them because I'm too far away. CRY I TELL YOU.
