Ava shut her eyes tight against the glow of the blue light and cautiously felt around with her hand. Or tried to, anyway. When she found she could barely even fidget, she started to panic. What happened...? Was this a dream? Even as she tried to snap her eyes open, it was hard work, and when she finally did, all these strange people picked her up
( ... )
... Well now this was certainly more up his alley. She was a cute one, one quick glance could tell hi that easily, but immediately hitting on the foreigners was something he'd been explicitly instructed not to do. Ingram had said to at least give them a five minute break before moving in. ... Though, Ingram hadn't said he couldn't flirt.
Kaite took care to keep his distance from the woman; even from this distance he could see the look of panic and wariness in her eyes, and crouched down a little. Forcing a young lady to strain her neck just to look at him would have been rude, after all.
"Whispers of Loki, though I'll have to suggest that name change to Ingram some day. It's cute." His face took on a more serious look for a moment, pushing back the brim of his cap and studying the woman's body with a look that was blatantly professional.
"Are you still feeling disorientated? I wonder if a heal would help the recovery process, but I have no idea if it would be all right to expose your bodies to magic so soon..."
It was good that Kaite kept his distance because otherwise Ava probably would've toppled back she would have tried to scoot back so fast. As it were, she did inch back a little when he crouched down.
"... Sorry," she said. Was there something different about her hearing? Usually, she didn't make a mistake like that... "Um." What? Heal? Magic? That was definitely a clue she wasn't home (so far as she knew). "Am I in another universe...?"
"Yes. They think so, at least. The scientists running this camp, I mean. Either way it's fairly obvious you guys aren't from Midgard, or even the same universe altogether." A quick glance over the group gave away that much easily; the clothing, belongings, too many of them were completely unfamiliar to Kaite and he'd supported nearly every class there was to support.
"This is the Ash Vacuum, a dimension just recently discovered. We'll be taking you back to our world soon though."
So there were scientists...? She didn't know if that made her feel better or more worried. "Ash Vacuum?" she repeated slowly. Why didn't that sound good? "What's... your world?" And would it kill her?
"It's called Midgard. I don't suppose that name's familiar to you, is it?" A long shot, but one worth taking. Though either way, whether these portal foreigners were from their own world or another, Whispers of Loki was going to be stuck with them for a while.
Midgard? She blinked owlishly up at Kaite. She shook her head slowly. "Sorry... no. Um." She bit her lip. "You said guild before...? What are we... am I supposed to do?" She might as well accept it since she didn't know what else she could do.
She just hoped wherever they ended up, monsters or people or... anything, really, didn't end up coming to kill them.
It was a lot of information to dump on a girl, and considering how cute she was Kaite was beginning to feel a little bad that he had to do so, but perhaps just one step at a time would be enough for her.
"Our guild, Whispers of Loki, we're generally a trade guild. However the branch I'm a part of, Sleipnir, well we're being actively hired by the UMA to conduct a few missions for them here and there. Mostly it'll mean having to deal with some monsters, I'd guess. We don't really do too much else these days."
Trade? UMA? Missions? Ava was growing more and more apprehensive by the second.
Wait. She tried to sit up on her knees and looked at him with fear and almost desperation.
Monsters?
... Monsters?
"M... Monsters?" That barely came out as a whisper. Even if she had seen savage flying boars before and hideous human-spider hybrids, she would never get used to the sight of any monsters. She had no ability to fight off monsters. None whatsoever.
Immediately he raised a hand, not to touch her or hold her steady, she didn't look ready for that kind of contact, but a small, single motion to keep her calm. She would have wasted all of whatever energy she had on panicking otherwise.
"Monsters, but the UMA and the main branch of the guild are lending us trainers to help ready you guys. You won't be defenseless out here, I promise."
Kaite was pretty much correct on his assumption: Ava flinched slightly when he raised his hand. What was he going to do...? Oh.
She bit her lip, unsure who to take that or to trust that. She wasn't exactly sure she had the physical fortitude to train in a way to fend off monsters. She might be fit enough for long dance routines, but otherwise?
"Okay," she said, uncertainty clear in her voice. "... if you say so."
Straight off the bat, he was sure that this woman was destined for some sort of support class. Her timidity was unsuited for melee and quite frankly it'd be a waste of cute to let her rough herself up with the thieves and the swordsmen.
Here was hoping she'd take a interest in the more holier side of support.
"We're not going to just give you a sword and send you off into a pack of porings. Khepri can tell you more about classes back on the ship, but suffice to say there are plenty of classes where you won't have to engage in direct combat with the monsters."
Sword? Were these people... historic? Medieval? Was that the right word...? She wasn't sure.
Classes? That was really organized. Did that mean that monsters were that wide spread that there were classes offered to everyone to learn how to defend themselves?
"Okay." She nodded. "I'll... I'll try my best." What else could she do?
Kaite offered a light smile once more. It was a hesitant agreement, but an agreement nonetheless.
"That's all we could ask for. What's your name? Since we'll be working together from now on, I'd hate to have to refer to you as the beautiful girl all the time. As true as that may be, of course."
At that flirting those compliments, Ava grew shier. She didn't know how to handle those types of compliments at all. Praise for her musical abilities or performances, yes. Anything else, no.
She cast her eyes to the ground and fidgeted a little. "I'm Ava." Her eyebrows furrowed in concentration as she tried to remember his name. "You said, Kaite, right?"
"Right. If you ever find yourself in need of healing, come see me. Ingram'll only give you an odd look, after all." Moving back, he stood up and dusted off the edges of his robe idly, offering her another easing smile.
"We should be getting Recalled soon. I'm going to go check on the others in here for now; I'll catch up with you later, if you don't mind. Be sure to save any questions you have for me."

Or was she completely off the mark?
