When abducted, Ava had never been left behind and therefore never beamed back up, but even then, she imagined it wouldn't have felt like this. Lacking grace, Ava would have been one of those who fell forward except she fell forward and not back, almost face planting. She shoved her arms in front of her in time, wincing at bearing her weight and the sting on her palms ( ... )

Ramsden was doing a good job of keeping herself composed as these new...contaminants warped onto the ship, but when an opportunity to let off steam presented itself, why, the captain was certainly not going to let it go to waste.

"I suggest the archery school," she murmured, removing the elongated pipe from her mouth to blow out a trail of smoke near Ava's face, "that you may acquire some grace."

Ingram sighed and lightly waved the air to brush away some of the smoke as it dissipated out.

"Rest is about the best thing you could get right now. There's nothing that can be done about the situation otherwise, and you will likely have a clearer head about it if you've had some food and rest. But let me see your hands." He gestured towards her hands.

Ava's surprise at the reindeer... person? was overridden by the puff of smoker. She coughed and skittered a few steps away.

"Archery school?" she repeated, looking back and forth between Ramsden and Ingram, utterly confused. The talk of classes with Kaite was not recalled in the sudden shock of... getting recalled.

"My hands...?" She looked down at her hands. They were still stinging and maybe turning a little red, but she didn't know if she wanted a stranger to look at them. "They're fine..."

"Don't worry, dear. He doesn't bite," she said, a gloved hand dipping into the insides of Ingram's coat. Out she pulled a red and white mint. Off to the side, Chester may have been unamused, if one could read the expression on a blob of sentient goo.

Five hundred zeny that Kaite had already hit on this one- not that Ramsden couldn't see why. She smiled at the blonde, even if she wouldn't see it. "Try not to fall off the ship." With that, she and Chester moved on, the latter pointedly ignoring Ingram.

He showed no indication that Ramsden's violation of his person had ever occurred, nor the disdain of the homunculus. In fact, it hardly mattered to him that his robes were hanging more open than they normally did when he leaned over and pointed to Ava's hands. Whatever skittish motion she made, Ingram merely murmured, casting a healing spell that glowed faintly to take care of the scrapes.

"Better?"

... Did that goo have a personality? What? She blinked at Ramsden's words, frowning at the implications. She knew she was clumsy, but she wasn't bad enough that she'd go overboard just because she tripped.

The faint glow caught her attention, and she looked down to see her hands better. Healing magic? ... Kaite did mention that.

"Yes," she replied hesitantly. "... Thank you." .... Didn't Kaite mention something else? "... Why were you supposed to give an odd look?" Uh oh. She probably wasn't supposed to ask that. She bit her lip, half-apprehensive. It was too late, but... she didn't want to start off on someone's bad side even if she was creeped out by them. ... Especially if she was creeped out by them.

Ingram glanced up from Ava's hands to her face, an eyebrow arching in surprise and mild confusion. "Why was I supposed to give an odd look?"

...

... Would it be bad to say so?

There was a very lengthy pause before she spoke up. "Kaite said so....?"

Oh, really?

Ingram smiled with amusement. "And why did he say I would have an odd look?"

She fidgeted, plucking at her sleeve. "Sorry. I have no clue. We were..." What did he call it? She couldn't remember. "We got plunked on the ship before I could ask." ... Not that she had really wanted to ask. She felt it better to accept and not know.

Ah. Well, he supposed it didn't matter. Ingram knew why it would be unusual for him to do any sort of healing, though odd looks was stretching it a little.

"I'm not the same kind of priest Kaite is. He's more supportive, I'm more offensive. I don't really heal people that often," Ingram explained.

Sorry, Ingram. Most of that flew over Ava's head or confused her, considering her view of priests consisted of the Catholic ones. It would be easy to read the blank and then the confused expression on Ava's face.

"Offensive?"

Ah. It was probably obvious from the beginning, but he only just realized the girl was definitely not field battle material. Of course it wouldn't make sense to her.

"I exorcise demons," he explained as plainly as he could. "Or the unrestful dead. Whichever is closer."

Too much information, too much information, too much unwanted information right now. It would have been better to tell her about demons and undead later. After introducing her to... regular, not undead monsters.

She just stared blankly at Ingram, though perhaps with a tinge of fear.

Oh wonderful, a skittish girl. Well, there was nothing he could really do about this. Ingram sighed inwardly.

"If you could, go and find Kaite. Tell him to help you get settled in."

Because obviously he was going to get more leeway than Ingram would now.
