I don't think I've mentioned this here yet: As of Halloween, I HAVE AN AGENT! Woo! ^_^ And I am very excited to have her (and her assistant) on board for this sure-to-be-crazy ride. I am amazingly excited! Because for once in my life, the person I'm in contact and contract with is legitimately in the business. Like, right there, in NYC. Whoa!
And maybe some day I'll have to go down *to* NYC. ^_^ Unlikely, but I like to keep that option floating up there. I would visit in a heartbeat. I think it's only about $30 round trip, and I know Nicole would come with me, and we could stay in Brooklyn with Claudia. I've never been to NYC, so it might just be a trip I have to plan regardless.
Eeee!
She will be contacting more publishers; I already had my manuscript out with an editor at Delacorte and one at Little, Brown. Now, they're compiling a submissions list, and working on the pitch for the series as a whole. Plus, they're really excited about the other projects I have been playing with here and there over the years.
Ahhh! ^_^ Could things finally be going in a positive direction? That would be awesome.
For those of you who are going "Weren't you already being published?" Yes, I WAS. I had signed with a publisher LAST October. But in July, the VP and Acquisitions Editor split from the company, and with them went the drive for the publisher to have a young adult line. The publisher suspended the YA line, reverted the rights for the works back to the authors, let the authors keep whatever advances they had already received, and... the end. Within a week, I had the manuscript out to an editor; within a month, I had been approached by the other editor to send the manuscript to him. I spoke with the agent's assistant on October 6th, mailed the manuscript on the 11th, and had "the call" on Halloween. VERY fast on that one.
And that is about all of the exciting news on my end.
