I had a dream last night that I went horseback riding with Maya Angelou. In this dream, I was a girl, but I had a mustache. You see, I used to frequently be male in my dreams. Now, I am a woman, but I often have facial hair. I really don't know why.
Anyway, after horseback riding, I took Maya home to meet my parents. She was very rude and condescending because my parents and I were not black or gay. After she left, my parents told me how much they didn't like her. I agreed, and added "I always liked Alice Walker better anyway".
Maybe this was a belated dream in celebration of Black History Month.
Apparently, March is Women's History Month. Allan let me pick out all of the books to put on display. I found a bright orange book on the history of feminism and a picture book biography of Eleanor Roosevelt among others. While I was looking through the children's books, I saw one titled "Stonewall". I got really excited because I thought that we had a picture book about the Stonewall riots and the beginning of the gay rights movement. Unfortunately, it turned out to be about Stonewall Jackson, the Civil War general.
I stayed up until 1am last night talking to my dad. He was in a lot of pain and I was trying to distract him. We talked about old library colleagues, Andrew Wyeth the artist, and Columbus in the 1980s. I was really tired this morning because I had to get up for class, but I'm glad I stayed up.
