We have a hamster in our apartment at the moment. Lindsay's boyfriend, Scott, came to visit for the weekend. Apparently, one of his hamsters escaped before he left and stowed away in his laundry. Lindsay saw something moving on her bedroom floor in the middle of the night and screamed... There's never a dull day here at Chez Wake!
For now, the hamster is living in a small fish tank in our kitchen. It doesn't look very happy.
Remember the comic book store in Athens that had a fire a few months ago? They're now selling some new comics and fire-damaged goods out of a garage until they can re-open.
gabeneutrino and I walked there today to check out the fire sale. Thankfully, David was nowhere to be found and the one clerk was very nice except for the fact that he assumed JG was going to be paying for my stuff. I scored a Manhunter TPB that is readable if a little smoke-damaged.
I've been feeling pretty lonely lately. I haven't had very much success in making new friends here so far. There was a boy in my English class that I liked: Nick. I asked him if he would like to go get coffee sometime and he told me that he was seeing somebody else. I told him that I would still like to be friends (and I meant it), but he won't talk to me anymore.
Lindsay says that I come off as unapproachable sometimes. She said I need to put myself out there, join some clubs. I think she's right, I just wish I wasn't so damn shy.
After going without sleep for about 24 hours, I decided that I needed to read Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. GR is sort of like Ulysses in the way that they're both really long and inaccessible. I checked out a book of criticism and a reading companion to go along with the actual novel. I know that sounds like a lot of work for something I'm just reading for fun, but I find it fascinating. I'm the sort of person who reads literary criticism for pleasure.
Anyway, I had just read the scientific explanation for why the vapor trail from a V-2 rocket looks like a cylindrical rainbow from above, if you were looking down of the North Sea. I was drowsy and floating and I thought "Do I really have to come down? Or can I find someone up here with me?"
