Why I Haven't Been Around Much Lately
I haven't felt like myself all week, in between the holiday on Wednesday and the anniversary of my dad's death today. I realized that I have amnesia about what I did during this week last year. I know I went to see Superman Returns at some point and I got drunk while watching the fireworks in the park, but I don't actually remember doing those things. I guess it's because they seem unimportant compared to Dad.
A friend from high school, Danny, called me out of the blue on the 4th. My mom had invited some relatives over for coffee and dessert before going to see the fireworks, so I told Danny he could come over too. He brought his guitar along, and the two of us spent the evening on the porch having a sing-along. I was previously unaware that it was possible to play Outkast's "Hey Ya" on acoustic guitar.
I say "friend", but Danny's two years younger than I am and is really more like my surrogate little brother. He's bipolar and has been really struggling with going to college. Thankfully, we'll both be living in Athens next fall and I'll be able to keep an eye on him.
Speaking of moving to Athens, I drove over there on Thursday to check out the apartment I'll be living in this coming school year. My room's pretty small, but I will have my own bathroom and my future roommates are really nice. Lindsay is a good friend from high school and I get along with Lauren and Mikaela. Lauren was afraid of me at first because I told her that I was an English major:
"Oh no! I'm not very good at English! Or is it 'I don't know English well?' Which is correct?"
"Um, either one. I'm not a grammar Nazi, you know."
"Oh, okay! I like you!" She was visibly relieved. It makes me wonder what kind of English majors she's met before to warrant that response.

I recently spent two hours scanning in over seventy pages of comics for a massive Trickster/Pied Piper retrospective post! It will be awesome.
Coming tonight or early tomorrow! I hope!
Also, I realized today that my bathing suit looks like the Pied Piper's original costume. By which I mean it's green with white polka dots, not that I have some weird stocking bathing cap. I was referring to it as my "Old Lady Swimsuit", but now it shall be the "Pied Piper Swimsuit".
